I have been attempting to get my dark locks an ultra blonde color, and
over the past few months may hair was getting lighter and lighter with
no issues to the condition of the hair due to expensive moisturizing
treatments and long breaks in between each coloring session.
However what I had going on was a nice light colored brown, with nifty
blonde honey highlights. I wanted to take it up a notch though and get
the color even lighter, so I went out in search of some new hair dye,
and came across one that promised to improve the condition of the hair,
and that it was ammonia free. Not only that it claimed to take be able
to tackle darker hair with no brassy tones. Seeing that the honey tone
in the highlights was what I wanted gone, I went ahead and purchased it.
It is called Revlon ColorSilk, Ultra Light Ash Blonde 05.
Being a fan of Revlon cosmetics, I figured their hair dyes would be
just as satisfying as far as results went. The girl on the box however
was semi scary and I still think it is a man in a wig.
At any rate, creepy box model aside, I went home and got busy.
My Use:
I mixed all of the included serums together in the application bottle,
and stored the ultra small packet of conditioner to the side for later
use. I have very thick hair and was sort of disappointed at how little
they give you in the conditioning packet, which is vital to after
coloring.
At any rate, I applied the dye and waited for results. I sat in front
of my mirror hoping to see the hair lighten up intensely to the same
blazing blonde that it promised. Instead I watched my lighter hair turn
Chucky red, and the highlights which were mostly blonde were also taking
in a deeper bright Ronald Red coloring.
I have dyed my hair blonde before and knew this phase all too well,
and usually the longer you leave the dye in, the lighter it will become,
and the red tones vanish. With Revlon ColorSilk, Ultra Light Ash Blonde
05, that never happened. In fact all it did for me was make my hair
look redder and brighten this red.
I washed it out using the included conditioner packet, and was
horrified at how dry my hair felt. In fact, for something that promised
to be ammonia free, it damaged my hair more than Frost and Glow and
other products containing ammonia.
Overall:
My hair looked like crap. There is no nice way to put it. It ended up
dry, course, and the color was simply horrendous. If this stuff couldn't
lighten my light brown hair, pre-highlighted, than it will not work at
all for those with deeper colored browns.
Unless Life As Liz red is a color you are looking to achieve, skip this garbage entirely.
