Maybelline SuperStay 24 Lip Color in Lasting Lilac- 085

Maybelline SuperStay 24 Lip Color has won me over with a long lasting all day promise, and comfortable, non-drying formula that did exactly as it said it would. At first I was a skeptic, but after one use, I was a fan and immediately I went out seeking other shades. Unfortunately this lip color is so popular, and so sought after at this time, that acquiring, or finding colors is actually difficult!

I came across Lasting Lilac (085) tonight at my local Target, and knowing how well the previous colors I had used worked, I was convinced that this one would work just as well. The difference however between this one, and the other pink shade I picked up, was that Lasting Lilac has a beautiful shade of both pink and purple, which has a shimmer effect to it, instead of a plain matte finish. It's almost like a holographic illusion when you look at it through the package. It's a neat effect of 2 colors merging and working against one another to create this 2 shade illusion. It's neat to say the least.

The last Maybelline SuperStay 24 color I had used that had a shimmering effect to it, did not work quite as well as the one without a shimmer to it. I figured I would give Lasting Lilac a try though due to how beautiful it looked in the see through tube.

My Use:

To use Lasting Lilac, and any Maybelline SuperStay 24 Lip Color, you first have to make sure your lips are clean and dry.

Next you apply the lip color by unscrewing it from the dual tube. You want to be quick and precise while applying the color, because if you mess up, you could end up staining your lip. One swipe is enough to cover your lips, if you use too much it may clump, so use one swipe, and press your lips together to distribute the color to your top lip evenly.

Next you just allow the color to dry. It states to allow it to dry for up to 2 minutes for proper wear and last.

After your color has dried, you then pop off the clear balm located on the other side of the dual tube. Apply a coating of that to add moisture to the lips, and wallah, you are done. It works effortlessly. Your lip color will stay put through eating, drinking, blotting, etc. I even add other lip colors on top of these SuperStay colors to create my own unique blends.

When it comes to Lasting Lilac, I have to say that I was pretty disappointed in the outcome. In the tube I saw a beautiful pink/purple shimmer, yet on my lips what was delivered was a pale, near nude pink coloring.

There was no shade of lilac, the pink hue vanished, and the shimmer simply absorbed into nothingness.
What you are left with is a bland color that nearly resembles your actual lip color. A major disappointment.

Overall:

Maybelline SuperStay 24 Lip Color in Lasting Lilac is the first I have encountered that is actually being re-packaged and returned.

I will avoid the SuperStay 24 Lip Colors with a metallic shimmer effect to it from here on out, as they tend to be the ones that disappoint me the most. The color is just too weak.

Review: Maybelline's New Dream Matte Powder

I specifically wanted Maybelline, Dream Matte Powder for summer months when my skin tends to be shinier looking. I hate shiny looking skin, and matte foundations and powders tend to hide shine a hell of a lot better than other foundations and powders.

Although I didn't care too much for Maybelline's new liquid dream foundation, I still went ahead and tried out the powder hoping for better results. Hoping for long lasting results, and hoping the finish looked natural and not thick and cakey.

The powder itself goes on like a dream, it is light, airy, looks natural and feels natural. Frankly I do not even feel it when it is on.

What I also love is how it leaves my skin looking flawless and how it evens out my skin tone; not only that though, the powder itself got rid of the shine on my nose and forehead which is a huge huge plus!

The cons mostly are associated with the compact. Take a look at this photo. The compact is clumsy. The powder is pressed into its own separate chamber. You get to it by clicking up the see through lid. The application disc though is located underneath in a separate compartment. It does not slide out though, it slides to the right.

The reason I don't like it though is because it makes the compact harder to open completely, and it makes it easier to drop.

The application sponge disc is also made with cheap material, and you will notice it immediately. It has a thin cheap feel to it, and it is very small and hard to hold. Not only that it does not collect too much powder, so you continuously have to keep dipping it into the powder to fully cover your face in the powder for an even finish.

Overall though, I still love the powder. The compartment and the applicator could use some work.

Revlon Limited Edition Collection Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner

I bought Revlon Bedroom Eyes, in Fishnet Jet not because it looked cool, or because it was by Revlon; but because I simply sweat whenever I see the word NEW, or LIMITED EDITION. With the new collection of powdered liners stating both, I of course had to try it.

I assumed at $9.95 for such a small tube of it, that it would work wonders. I usually spend no more than $6.00 on liners for my eyes!

When I got home I had no idea that the powdered liner would contain micro-fine flecks of purple glitter within the jet black liner. On the in store display advertising in no way shape or form did it appear that any of these liners had glitter in them. For me, being a lover of glitter, and things that bling, it was an added bonus. For those who like more subtle liners though, I'd skip this all together. In fact I would skip it all together either way. Read on...

The Wand:

Revlon Limited Edition Collection Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner comes with a screw of lid, with an application sponge wand attached to it. I assumed that seeing how the container the liner came in was so small, the wand would also be thin, giving me precise and easy application.

When I unscrewed it though, I was pretty shocked to see that the sponge head was a hell of a lot thicker than what I am used to. The sponge was so thick that I knew I would not be able to apply the liner to the small bottom lids. I'd have to use a thin brush liner for that. Ugh!

Results:

Revlon Limited Edition Collection Bedroom Eyes Powder Liner was nothing more than a $10.00 mistake. The liner goes on as if it is a cream liner, but really it's powder, with moisturizer added to allow for ease of application.

However, as I slid the wand across my eye, the powder clumped up in areas. I had to blow off the excess mess, and the results looked nice after all was said and done.

But then something bad happened. Something I was not expecting from such an expensive liner.

Just a few short moments later, and a few blinks in...and I look at myself in the mirror and noticed that the liner has smudged some, and has also colored in the small creases in my lids.

This is something I would expect from a cheap dollar store liner...not Revlon!

Overall:

Garbage. I would not even spend a dollar on it! It smudges, clumps, bleeds into the creases of your eyes, and leaves your lids looking a mess.

Review: L'oreal Glam Shine Sorbet Dazzling Plumping Lip

Skip It!!!

I've actually had L'oreal Glam Shine Sorbet Dazzling Plumping Lip No. 300 Jubilee sitting in my makeup box for quite some time now.

I picked it up, because it looked like something I'd like. Glittery, pretty pink color, gloss, oh my!

The flavor was nice and fruity, but nothing spectacular from any other fruit flavored lip gloss.

The application wand was what I loved best. Most of my lip glosses, or high shine lip products are either metal squeeze tubes, or roll on applicators, which I have always hated.

The applicator on L'oreal Glam Shine Sorbet Dazzling Plumping Lip No. 300 Jubilee, is actually a dip in wand, with a soft sponge like application tip. A dip into the plastic container, and wallah, you are ready to apply. No finger dipping messes necessary.

I applied it to my lips, and fell in love with the high gloss look, and the pink color. However the lip formula, whatever it was, felt really thick, greasy, and gunky on my lips. Hated it.

On top of that, my lips also began to feel tingly, and began to take on a more reddish color. I imagined this was the active ingredient that would 'plump up my lips! Ugh!

The lip color looked nice, but felt horrendous on my lips.

All in all, I was not too impressed with L'oreal Glam Shine Sorbet Dazzling Plumping Lip No. 300 Jubilee.

It tingled my lips, made them look darker in color over time, and didn't plump them up. Just irritated them.

Revlon Colorstay Concealer

Okay I've been there, used that. You name the concealer and I've used it.
While most products I've tried causes that nasty caking (I'm so doused in makeup look), SHINE, and even more breakouts which leads to having to use even more concealer just to hide the breakouts caused by the concealers; and for those with dry skin, concealers can just become a skin dilemma.

Revlon's colorstay concealer has caused me no skin problems whatsoever. My skin type is oily. Usually any type of concealers I've used in the past have caused me to look as if I had a mirror on my forehead.
Until using this product all of those problems have become problems in the past.

Revlon's colorstay Concealer stays on, and stays on well. NO shine! NO SHINE! Probably because it is OIL FREE.
It doesn't feel like your wearing any makeup at all. It blends easily, and quickly with your finger, there is no need for any application pads or special blending brushes.
It stays on my skin for a good 8 hours, without wearing off.
Yes you can touch your face, and yes, even lean it up on that significant others shirt and its not going to budge. (Unless maybe you really mash it in)

Revlon Colorstay Concealer is SPF6, and it comes in 3 colors of
Natural Beige
Sand Beige
Ivory.

I use the Sand Beige even though my skin is slightly lighter than that. This specific color gives me a nice look of a beach tan even though I wasn't really at the beach.

Ive found that the best way to keep the concealer looking its best and most flawless is to lightly dab your face with a shine proof powder or any type of powder, preferably oil free to prevent breakouts.

First apply the Revlon Colorstay Concealer then dab your face lightly with the powder. It gives your face a flawless glow. Especially if you use 'Radiance' shimmer powder.

The one bad thing I've noticed about this concealer is how if you get to close to the eyebrows it will create a line of darker color around the hairline.
It can easily be taken care of with a wipe of warm water or alcohol. But it doesn't make its appearance for about 4 hours into the wear. So a mirror checkup may be necessary.
But it does not dye hair with time. I've used it for months now, and haven't noticed anything strange in my hair color.

All in all this is the best concealer I've ever gotten my hands on. I wouldn't switch brands for anything.

Cover Girl Clean Pressed Powder

I remember way back in junior high that if you didn’t have one of these little black or green compact makeup mirrors out on your desk every 20 minutes doing a puff puff touch up on your face, you were considered un-cool, scrubby, and un-girly.

I was into the hype then, trying to fit in and look beautiful, until I realized the whole Cover Girl Clean Pressed Powder did nothing to help my skin, and that it in fact clogged my pores and caused more breakouts.

I was careless then though, I didn’t change the cotton applicator…ever.

Years later I figured I might as well give it a try again and use it in a cleaner more responsible manner.
The price went up a buck since then and ran me nearly $6 at Eckerd’s.

What Is It?

Cover Girl Clean Pressed powder is exactly as it’s stated. Its pressed powder smashed into a spaceship shaped compact with the initials CG on the cover.

It clicks open like a coin purse, inside you got your thin little round applicator (which has grown even thinner with time) and you got your small little mirror. Oh you feel fabulous now don’t you! You get approximately .39oz.

Cover Girl Clean Pressed Powder is used for touch ups to keep that nasty shiny mirror off of your face.
I’ll ‘cover’ how well it works further on.

Colors:

This product has you covered here it comes in extreme light shades, and gets darker and darker with each increase in number.

I myself have always gone with buff beige, or soft honey. However obtaining the correct shade is not always an easy task as there are never any testers available, and the skin charts may as well have never been printed. They’re useless, off color, and lies.

You’re best bet is to go with intuition… which do you think you need? Are you looking for a perfect match, or a tan glow? Use your imagination here people, and don’t go too dark, you’ll end up with one of them ridiculous looking cover-up mask lines. You know what I’m talking about, when your neck don’t match your face. You look a fool!

How Well Does It Work?

When I pop click open the top and take a look in the mirror it’s always covered in a dusty film left behind from the powder, so you’re really seeing yourself behind blur, you think you look good, till you clean off the mirror. YIKES! I’m a greasy mess!

That’s why I bought this to begin with, so I swiped my little circular cotton applicator around a few times and I dab it on my problem areas, and try to hide a zit or two.

I then take a good look in the mirror and see how well it covered.

I can say it did a great job on ridding my forehead of the shine, but the pimple is still very red, and very obvious.

With long-term use even with changing the applicator puff regularly, you will find more pimples on your face.

Where It Fails:

Now this is where this product failed for me, in many of ways actually.

1. If you are new to Cover Girl you most likely will buy a shade either too light or too dark. Good luck returning an open and used compact.

–If you go too light, you look like a mime, if you go too dark you look like a moron trying to get a fake tan from makeup. Either way you’re going to look like an idiot. This makeup has always been trial and error, which for a consumer is quite unfair.

2. If you over apply and take a good look in the mirror you will notice you look like a dusty mess.

3. The applicator gets so dirty, so quickly; you will find yourself having to buy new ones weekly, or suffer consequences… more pimples!

4. The compact itself gets loose and will open up on its own easily after about a month of consistent opening and closing of the compact. It looses its tight hold, and will flop open constantly, leaving your bag a mess, and the powder useless.

5. The smell is downright disgusting, it reminds me of medicine and pool chlorine. Luckily tough they have unscented available, however unscented or not, Cover Girl Clean Press Powder has a signature scent…like it or not.

6. Seriously 15 minutes after doing my touch up on my shiny forehead, I took another glance in its mirror and I was all shiny again. It was even worse. That’s what happens when pores get clogged and skin cannot breath. The shine and grease comes out with vengeance.

7. You get .39oz of powder; however by the time you get down to the metal bottom the powder is so funky and gross looking you will end up throwing it out.

What's Good?

Honestly I’m having a hard time figuring out what’s good about it.
Okay wait, on the site it says that this gunk got some Kiss Os Approval Award from CosmoGirl in 2005.

Hmmm… probably because it was still the ‘in’, cool, hip thing to have as a teen still. I can imagine they’re still sporting these pore cloggers and pimple starters all around with them, thinking it’s the best makeup ever! Yay!

Overall:

It was a nasty product when I was in junior high, and it’s just as nasty now. Cover Girl needs to either improve the powder or stop making it all together. I think it is absolutely hilarious how Cover Girl’s site claims this gunk won’t clog pores. It’s a pores nightmare, a pore trap! Ahhh... run…

Let us advance to modern day powder that will improve our skin instead of relying on our junior high school garbage for coverage!

Adore It! CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation

CoverGirl and Olay decided to join forces to deliver customers one of the best foundations I think I have tried in a very, very long time.

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation is definitely different, and it demands attention when you walk past it in the store. Something as unique looking as this cannot go ignored and the moment you spot it, you will know you hit a gold mine.

What exactly is CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation?

It is actually a combination of foundation for flawless coverage, and Olay Regenerist Serum. The Olay serum will protect skin with SPF 22. It will also keep skin looking and feeling softer. Best of all though, this duo will improve skins appearance over time!

So while you conceal the flaws with the foundation, the Olay serum fixes them!!!

I honestly have no idea why someone hadn't thought of this sooner!

Appearance:

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation is pretty hard to miss. You will spot it right away down the cosmetics isle in any local super store. You will spot the small glass and plastic compact easily due to the odd way they mixed it. Through the glass bottom of the compact you will clearly see the foundations color, and the swirls of white Olay serum running neatly through the foundation.

The compact itself is made of cheap purple plastic, and it is the only thing flawed on the product. The plastic breaks very easily, and you immediately can tell how flimsy it is. I definitely do not recommend you plop this one into your bag for travel, because it's not well designed.

Inside of this purple plastic chamber is a small application sponge. You must unscrew the purple lid in order to get to the foundation. It's an odd packaging, and I really don't care for it all that much. The foundation though is simply perfect.

My Use:

I ran the small sponge applicator through the foundation and applied it to my face. It went on so smoothly, and left my face feeling like it had been soothed down with silk. It leaves behind a very fresh, cooling sensation on the face and it really felt delightful to the skin.

The coverage also impressed me. It matched my skin tone to the tee, and blended in perfectly hiding all flaws, and making my small fine lines near my eyes vanish. The Olay serum left my skin feeling super moisturized. The formula goes on so nicely, and feels so light that you will not know it is there.

The downside though was that it did leave my skin looking a little shinier than usual. I fixed up this little issue by adding a fine puff of shine free powder.

The soft silky feeling this foundation leaves behind on the skin though is not what makes it my newest favorite foundation. It is the fact that my skin looks brighter, looks healthier, and feels much softer. I have only been using it for about a week and already I can see, and feel a difference in my skin.

Overall:

CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation is stunning, and the quality matches that of foundations you'd spend $30.00 or more on. I have used many foundations; cheap ones, and high priced ones, and so far CoverGirl & Olay Simply Ageless Foundation is my top favorite.
