I love the way my hair looks and feels when it is straight. I hate the
amount of time it takes me to straighten though. My hair is extremely
thick, and semi long. It takes me at times 2 hours just to get it
completely straight, without any waves or run away curls or frizz.
When I came across Ogilvie Straightener, I was in heaven. In this box
was the answer (or so I had thought) to all of my problems.
According to the box I could have it all! Straighter hair, shiny hair,
manageable hair, and hair that would be easy to style. However the box
did not promise completely straight hair, in fact it only promised
straighter hair. I learned later on that if I used the Ogilvie
Straightener system every other month my hair would eventually get
straighter and straighter.
As of now though, the first treatment just promised changes... and
with my hair type I knew these 'changes' would be subtle; very, very
subtle! Grrr!
No matter though, I went ahead and purchased the system anyway. At the time the system came to $14.99.
Warnings:
No before you run out and buy it, I figured I would let you in on a
secret, do not use this is you have recently bleached your hair, or had
it dyed, chemically processed and so on. Ogilvie is meant for untouched
hair.
I figured that since I had not died my hair at all that summer, I would go ahead and use it.
When I got home I was pretty overwhelmed with all of the steps
involved. I could not believe how many times this system called for a
rinsing. Usually when I used boxed hair products I only have to take 1
shower; 2 the most. This system called for 3 or 4 rinsings, and I knew
it was annoying.
Not only that, I needed a partner to help me during the process.
The first process calls for rubbing some sort of cream into your hair. Rinse it out.
The next step is the stinky step. The egg fart step. You are to rub
this rotten egg formula into your hair while brushing your hair flat for
about 20 minutes.
I did this, and my mom (thank God she was there) brushed my hair,
while trying to keep it as straight as possible. The stink though was so
terrible that I nearly vomited a few times during the process.
A few moments into the brushing my hair became extremely brittle
feeling. As she brushed pieces were falling out, and my hair felt
crunchy. After brushing for the time directed, I then went in for a
shower to rinse it out. It smelled so bad, and what sucked was that I
could not use any shampoo!
Next more crap was thrown into my hair. This formula was to sit for
about 5 minutes, and then I was to rinse immediately. That word;
immediately, just freaked me out, and I wondered if I would be bald
after the whole process.
After the steps were all complete, I let my hair air dry. I could
definitely see a difference, as my hair was more flat and straight; but
God was it knotty. Ogilvie felt like it had made the hair follicle very
thin, and because of this my hair was wispy and got caught up and
tangled easily.
Brushing my hair was difficult too. No matter how hard I tried to remove knots, its seemed more and more formed.
Not only that but my hair was extremely dry, brittle and dull looking after the process.
I really, really was dying to go and do a deep conditioning, but the
directions stated that I was to not shower for the next 48 hours! Egad! 2
days of feeling icky, and the rotten egg scent was also very present!
I waited it out. I suffered with frizzy, dull, and brittle hair for 2
days, until finally I was able to deep condition. Deep conditioning did
improve my hair slightly, but that dull lifeless look was still very
present.
After my hair dried, I could see that it was only slightly flatter.
The frizz, and the waves in my hair though were still present. For the
mess that Ogilvie caused, the results were definitely not worth it at
all!
Ogilvie ruined my hair, and it took me months to get it back to
normal. I would never ever again in my life use another chemical hair
straightening system! I could barely even brush my hair without clumps
of it coming out, and the knots....ahhh the goddamn knots!
I swear this crap ruined my hair worse than I could of done dying it 7
times in a row. It truly strips your hair, and leaves it looking, and
feeling disgusting! For 2 months my hair felt cakey, weighed down, and
greasy. It's totally gross. Avoid it all all costs!

NO ONE!
