This Sunday I got bored with my hair. About a month ago I dyed it jet
black, and after messing around with some Halloween wigs, I wanted a new
look. I liked my black hair, but wanted to lighten things up a tad.
Spring is around the corner, and it's out with the dark and in with the
light.
I decided that I'd keep the dark base, ad add some light honey colored highlights.
I was nervous, and didn't know where to begin, because I have used
tons of bleaching kits in my time, and almost 90% of them end up leaving
nasty road blocks, or chunks in my hair. The result at times is skunk
like, or calico cat like.
I was hoping for perfection. Read on to see what I got....
I picked Revlon Haircolor, Custom Effects Highlights in the color H20.
H20 is made for those with dark blond to medium brown hair. I had black
hair, so I figured my results would be similar, only more brassy. I
didn't mind. I knew with some good sun, the brassy effect would wear off
into a nice dark shade of warm blond. I knew this from past history
with dyes anyway.
This dye kit supposedly would allow me to line in the drip free dye
for perfect control of where the hair would lighten. It came with a
small dye brush, powdered mix, gloves, and the squeeze dye bottle.
The
kit also came with a toner, and a conditioner for after use.
All I had to do was open the powdered mix and add it to the liquid squeeze bottle, and shake.
This came as no easy task. The powder envelope made it difficult to
pour it into the squeeze bottle spout, so a lot of the mix went onto the
floor, and my hands and arms. Which later on resulted in itchy red
burning skin.
Anyhow...
After mixing, I squeezed the dye out into the grooves located on the
brush. It worked but I found that all of the dye would just end up
gooping out in one section. It did not glide down the entire strand of
hair, which meant the result would be a half a streak. Pretty stupid
looking if you ask me.
I ended up just squeezing the dye out of the bottle and directly on to
my hair. I had even lines, and assumed it would work out just as well,
if not better.
I waited a full hour before showering the dye out. I had black hair,
even though the instructions said to leave it in for 45 minutes, I left
it in a little longer. A little longer always seems to work best for my
hair.
Results:
I rinsed the dye out, used the toner, and then used the conditioner.
My hair was left very dry and snarled after getting out and attempting
to use a brush. I sprayed in some leave in conditioner to tame the
knots.
The results were not recognizable when looking in the mirror. I had to blow dry and straighten to see the final outcome.
What I got was half nice, half crap. Some strands of hair picked up
the dye completely and looked flawless; others though had bumps of
yellow, black, yellow black, which looked like a checkerboard.
Overall:
My hair is half ass. The dye only took to certain strands, and didn't
bother dyeing others. Some strands are checked, and others are not. I
have to wear my hair up until I can afford to get it fixed at the salon
next week.

Big NO!
