NYX Glitter Cream Pallet Eye Shadow, Utopia: Review

I mentioned in a previous review that I had recently come across a new line of makeup from NYX, which is a well known (but not highly sought after) makeup company.

This brand usually lines corner shelves at my local drug store, and because the prices are so low, I'm always checking to see if anything new is in. Before I even made my way over to their shelf though I was able to see something glimmering from a distance that I just knew I had to have.

On the shelves lined up neatly were a slew of compacts containing the most beautiful glitter pallets I had ever seen. At first I imagined they were lip glosses, because I had never seen eye shadows sporting this much glitter.

Once I got the makeup home and popped open the top, I found that these compacts were actually in fact eye shadows. I was thrilled because I have always loved lining my eyeliner with glitter for that extra special unique look to finish off my eye makeup.

Utopia was especially pretty, and contained 5 different glitter cream eye shadows. The first color in the compact was a light neon colored pink. This color resembled the neon pink that came in the Paradise compact...only the pink in the Utopia color set was much lighter, and the glitter shimmer was a light pinkish purple. It reminded me of an easter egg. I figured this color lined on top of black eyeliner would really look different.

Next to the pink pallet sat a very eye catching neon green. I found this color to be really nice, because it was a color I had never seen come from an eyeshadow. The glitter gave off a high neon green shimmer, which I knew would stick out like a sore thumb.

Next came a neon orange color, like the green one, this color also came with gobs of neon colored micro fine glitter. I assumed this would look best lined lined on top of brown eyeshadow.

After orange sat a smoky gray color that really didn't catch my eye, but was still pretty nonetheless. The shimmer the glitter gave off was more metallic, and reminded me of aluminum. I didn't quite care for this particular color, but I figured it would still give a nice shimmer for when I was going for that smoky eyed look.

The last pallet color was probably the reason for me buying the compact to begin with. This color was an eye popping neon yellow color, which gave off an awesome neon yellow glittery shimmer. I knew this color would look awesome on top of black eyeliner; especially for summer days on the beach. Unique is the only word I can think of when speaking of this color.

Anyhow, I was pretty pleased with the color combinations that came from NYX Glitter Cream Pallet, Utopia.

Once I opened the lid, I noticed included in the compact were 3 sponge applicators, and 1 small brush applicator. I figured the brush applicator would be the easiest and most precise way to apply a thin coat of the cream glitter to the top of my eyeliner. Sadly though this brush had very hard bristles, so I had to use my own.

Like I had mentioned in my Paradise review, things did not work out as planned. The cream was not sticky enough to hold the glitter to my eyelids, and once the cream dried, the glitter simply feel from place and ended up all over my face. It looked like I had just had a lame ass glitter fight with some girlfriends.

Overall:

NYX Glitter Cream Pallet, Utopia comes packed with some really nice glitter cream shadows, sadly though it does not stay put, and ends up all over the place. Even though NYX Glitter Cream Pallet sucks when used as eyeshadow, I find that it would work nicely as body glitter.

The colors are very bold, and very unique, as eyeshadow though, it just does not work well at all. As body glitter, NYX Glitter Cream Pallet gets two thumbs up.

You can pick up a compact for less than $4.00 at drug stores. For a closer look at the available colors that comes with Utopia click here.
