Review of Lush: Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly

Christmas is just around the corner, and my mom not knowing what to get me, told me to just order myself a slew of Lush goodies. It was like being given a golden pass to one of my favorite bath time delights. Seeing though that I had a limit, I decided to order some things for myself and pay the difference, just so I didn't have to wait for Christmas.

I included a 3.5 ounce slab of Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly in my order.
What Is a Shower Jelly?

It took me quite a few months to finally decide one day to order myself a shower jelly. The reason I hadn't ordered it sooner was because the shower jelly concept confused me, and I did not think it would work in the shower quite as well as Lush soap, or Lush Bath Bombs.

Shower jelly's are basically the oddest bath product I have ever used. They come cut into a squarish rectangular slab, and look and feel like gelatin. If you press on it it will jiggle, it will wiggle.

Lush.com claims that you can freeze jellies for a cooling sensation. You can also squish jellies into a bath poof and use it that way. I used it by squishing it into my bath poof. I didn't think it would work as good as it did!

At any rate though, the best way to describe a shower jelly would be to say that it is a jellied piece of shower gel. I actually used Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly in my hair as shampoo too, and it worked out great.

Before getting ahead of myself though, I wanted to fill you in on what Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly looks like. As mentioned above it comes cut into a square. Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly is a lovely amber color with micro flecks of gold pieces in it.

It is described on Lush.com as smelling like warm cinnamon and clove. These scents combined are supposedly used to stimulate the senses. Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly is also Lushes best selling shower jelly, so I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Scent:

Out of the odd plastic container that my Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly came in, I immediately noted the odd herbal scents. I didn't really smell much cinnamon. To me it smelled more like amber, oranges, and pepper. A warm scent it was, and I really liked it. I would have loved to of smelled some cinnamon in the mix though, but my jelly just failed to give off any fragrant notes of cinnamon. Even in the shower I didn't detect any cinnamon.

My Use:

I first cut a chunk of the shower jelly from the large slab of jelly. I knew bringing the entire slab of jelly into the shower would be a total waste, so to save it for future uses I only took a small amount.

In the shower I first used a chunk of it in my wet hair. I have always loved 3 in 1 bath products, and figured I could use Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly in the same manner (more of a 2 in 1 though, because I don't think Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly would work well as a bubble bath at all).

The jelly was thicker than I first imagined, and it was a little tough to work up a lather in my hair. Once I had a good lather to work with though I was pretty impressed with just how creamy and soft the lather felt.

The scent was lovely, but it was not strong like most Lush products are. From past experiences I have come to realize that many Lush products seem to give off a more potent and overpowering scent once they are used under hot water. Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly sort of remained the same. Not too strong, but not that weak either.

I rinsed my hair and was surprised to feel how moisturized my hair was. Usually when I use 3 in 1's or 2 in 1's in my hair, it leaves my locks feeling a little dry. Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly actually moisturized my hair, and even left it kissed with light scent that I loved!

After rinsing and applying conditioner, I then went to use the rest of Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly in my bath poof. At first I wasn't able to work up any lather at all, but as soon as I added a little more water to my poof, the lather began to foam up like silky soft heaven. I was so happy with how well it worked in my shower puff! I was not expecting this odd jelly form to work so well as body wash!

The lather I got from such a small chunk of the jelly was simply amazing! Not only was the lather amazing, but the way it left my skin so soft, and so moisturized also added to the amazement! This stuff was luscious!

After washing and rinsing, I was a little disappointed in the fact that the warm scent didn't stay with me after drying up. The scent did remain in my hair, which was nice, but I would have loved if it would have lingered on my body for longer than it did. I did though love that it left my skin feeling very soft, and very clean.

Overall:

I loved it. Even though the scent didn't stick with me on my skin as long as I wanted it to, I was still pleasantly pleased with how soft it made my skin, and how well it worked when using it as a shampoo. Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly is definitely a Lush product I will order again.

I highly recommend Gold Frankincense and Beer Shower Jelly to bath junkies. This is one jelly that will not disappoint.
