Alberto VO5 Brush Out Hairspray, Extra Hold - Review

I've grown fond of Alberto VO5 products these past few months. Not only are most of their products cheap, but they also work just as well as expensive brand hair products.
My latest love is hands down Alberto VO5 Brush Out Hairspray, Extra Hold. The 8.5 ounce aerosol can promised hold, yet manageability. Basically it stated that I would be able to use this hairspray to keep my hair in place, yet it was soft enough as to where I could run a brush through it still.
I have thick unmanageable hair, and this promise seemed like a fluke to me at first, but because my hair lately has had a good relationship with the company, I figured it could not hurt to at least try it. At only $3.50 for the can I figured why the heck not?!
Once I got my can home with me and sprayed it directly onto my pulled back style. Usually my hair is always in a bun to keep my hair in place, however without hairspray loose ends would fall from the sides, so this is why I always use hairspray.
I have used many hair sprays that have done an excellent job at holding my hair in place all day, however when I go home to let my locks down, the hairspray will not allow it, and what I am left with is crunchy stiff helmet head. If this Brush Out Hairspray does as promised, I would no longer have this problem.
I held the can 12 inches away from my hair like the bottle states to, and I held down the push button on the can. It sprays in evenly, and once I had all I needed, I was able to style my hair as the spray dried.
Right away I noticed that this hairspray took longer to dry than your average can of spray, and it worried me because I had used sprays like this before. Usually sprays that feel light and take long to dry don't offer any hold.
Alberto VO5 Brush Out Hairspray, Extra Hold did in fact hold my hair. Once I had my hair up in a bun, I sprayed in a bit more and waited for it to dry. After running my hands through the top of my head to feel how it had dried I noticed that it was soft. However, really there was no huge amount of hold. With someone like me who has tons of hair, hold is important.
I sprayed in some more, and finally I had a bit of hold. My hair however was no longer soft; in fact it was pretty crunchy. It was no better, and no worse than other products, but to get hold I had to use more, and using more eventually ended up in crunch and stiffness.
I can say though, that I was able to brush the spray out after getting home from work, and my hair went back to it's soft natural style; so that was a plus.
I still have the can of hairspray in my room and use it when I run out of my better holding hair sprays. So it's not like I just chucked it into a closet and left it there to rust. I do actually use it on occasion.
Scent:
It's nothing to love nor hate. It has that signature V05 scent to it. It's nothing really I can note. It's sweet, yet chemically at the same time. Like all hair sprays.
Overall I'm neutral about the hairspray. I don't hate it, nor do I love it. It does brush out easily when you want to take your style down...but it also does not hold too well unless you use a lot of it.
Recommendation:
Although this does not work 100% well with thick hair, I can truly see this working wonders for those with thinner hair.
