Mmmm... Review of Spiced Apple Soap by Savon a La Pomme

When I came across a bunch of soap tins at my local Marshall's for just $3.99, I figured I would scoop a few of them up as they all had a festive holiday seasons greetings logo etched into the tins. I usually always scoop up cheap extras like this in case someone I was not expecting, shows up to a family holiday party. Having extra gifts on hand are pretty much a must in our household.

One particular soap however caught my attention above all of the rest, Apple Spiced Soap, by Savon A La Pomme. Another odd foreign name offered by Marshall's.

Out of curiosity and my love for apple scented fragrances I had to pop the lid on the tin and see what spiced apple had to offer.

Surprisingly I was in love. I did not expect to love it as much as I did, as most of my soaps come strictly from Lush. However with no Lush nearby, and this soap smelling better than Lush's apple scented soaps, I went ahead and bought it, as it smelled so delicious, like spiced apple. A red delicious apple scent that was both realistic and juicy, and a nice hint of cinnamon that was not over powering.

Combined this one smelled like warm apple cider, and I knew I would not be giving this one away, as it would be staying with me.

Use:

When I got around to using Spiced Apple, Savon A La Pomme I was excited to see how well it would work. Would it leave behind the delicious holiday spiced apple fragrance, or would it transform into some mediocre scent that smelled nothing like what it smelled like dry.

I am happy to report that the spiced apple scent does get released while you run it along your body in the shower. Its therapeutic to say the least, and smells fantastic.

Lather is pretty weak however, and the soap does not create a whole lot of suds to work with.

The real problem was, after rinsing off, the scent rinsed off as well, leaving behind not a trace of the delicious spiced apple scent.

This soap could have been a top favorite of mine had the scent stood with me, even for a little while, only it never did. It does however leave you feeling squeaky clean, and the scent will stick around in the bathroom for a few hours as well.

Overall:

I like the experience in the shower, I like smelling the warm cider like fragrance fill the air, and I like that it sticks around in the air. I would have loved if the scent would have stuck with me though. All in all Spiced Apple by Savon A La Pomme is a decent soap. One I would buy again for this price. It also makes for great stocking stuffers, or to have on hand for holiday parties when an unexpected guest arrives.

It is not the best soap in the world, but it is far from the worst.

Lush Karma Soap

Lush has been one of my many addictions when it comes to bath and beauty products.

I mostly hit the site up once every two months and fill my online shopping cart with hundreds of dollars worth of bathing goodies.

One of my first orders I was sure to include Karma Soap. I had heard from many people that this was the most overpowering and potent scented bar of soap they had ever used.

Many compared it to incense; Patchouli to be precise. A scent I myself have always loved.

What I Got:

Karma is a solid glycerin bar of soap. The soap itself is a bright happy colored orange.

The Scent:

I was smelling my Karma bar before I even opened my box. I knew what they meant when they said overpowering.

The moment I opened my box, the scent I had slightly detected coming off of the box was now in full bloom.

A huge blast of hippies came flying from the box. I wanted to pop in Grateful Dead and start jamming. Karma smells like incense indeed. Incense so powerful though, that just being exposed to air for a few seconds, and the entire room smelled like a hippie's pot smoking lair.

I could not wait to get into the shower with Karma. I couldn't wait to see what this powerful soap had to offer.

My Use:

Karma is strong. The moment hot water hit the soap, the scent went into overtime. It actually got so powerful that I was barely able to tolerate it. The room filled with the scent of patchouli, and the scent was sticking my skin like leeches.

Suds were bare minimal, but it didn't matter, because the soap did in fact leave my skin feeling clean.

After getting out of the shower, I had this hunch that Karma was with me to stay. God was I right... the patchouli scent stood with me all day, into the night, and into the next day. By the time I woke up the next morning, I was actually sick of smelling it.

Overall:

Karma is NOT for everyone. This 3.5 ounce bar of soap packs a powerful punch. If you cannot stomach the smell of patchouli, then avoid it. However if it is a scent you love, then Karma is a sure pleaser.

Recommendation:

Cut the 3.5 ounce bar into sample sized pieces, and store in a cool place. I put mine in the fridge.

Lush: Angel's Delight Soap

On one of my first Lush order ever, I knew I would be receiving free samples. I was hoping for honey I washed the kids, and sexy peel.

Instead one of my samples was a decent sized piece of Angel’s Delight glycerin soap.

It was a soap I wouldn’t have bought on my own without that sample incentive. For one, I hate glycerin soaps, they’re slippery, they melt fast, and they’re messy. Then when I saw the sharp edged star glitter throughout the soap, I knew it was not for me.

However I instantly fell in love with Angel’s Delight; I could smell an inviting scent of something fruity right through the clear wrap.

I knew that this one sample piece would probably last through only one shower, as glycerin soaps melt fast.
Not only that it’s from Lush, and rumor has it a lot of their soaps melt fast, glycerin or not.

The piece I got was pink. It showed no traces of purple in it, or any spots of star glitter like it shows on the website at www.Lush.com. Seeing how lush cuts pieces from a large block, you never really know what you are going to get. You may end up with a purple piece with no stars, a pink piece with too many stars. For me, it makes the order all the more exciting.

The scent smells just like fruit punch when you first smell it. It is not overpowering like some other Lush soap, nor is it too weak.

I know that Lush soaps tend to come to life in all their glory once they hit warm water, so I was really excited to see what would blossom from my Angels Delight bar.

SPLISH SPLASH I WAS TAKIN A BATH…

I didn’t wait longer than 10 minutes after opening my Lush order to run to the shower to give this sample a try.

Angels Delight worked magic in my shower, I was instantly in love with it’s fruity scent, and yes it did get a little stronger once it hit the water.

However after a good scrubbing I realized it smelled just like generic fruit punch powdered drink mix. It wasn’t awful, but it surely didn’t smell like fresh fruit. The smell also wasn’t horrible; I still liked it, but was disappointed how it no longer smelled the way it did when I first smelled it.

Angel’s Delight fails miserably in the lather department. It really took a lot of scrubbin’ n’ rubbin to get suds to form, and they don’t really last. Even though the lather was a miss, I still felt clean, so I was happy.

I was happy to report that the soap lasted for the entire shower; it was not something I was expecting. I figured once this hit the water it would evaporate before my eyes.

I’m also happy to report that even though this is a glycerin soap, I didn’t drop it once. Maybe I was just lucky, but the soap itself wasn’t too slippery.

DRY TIME:

This is where Angel’s Delight picks up the bad and makes it right. Once I dried off, I could smell the sweet subtle fruity scent, and this time it smelled fruity, not like powdered drink. So I liked it 100% again.

The best part for me was how this fruit punchy scent stayed with me for at least 3 hours after using only a sample. I was sold; I knew I would be purchasing this with my next order, which will be occurring right after I finish this up. Haha!

Sadly though Angel’s Delight didn’t add much moisture to my skin, as a matter of fact my skin felt dry and thirsty afterwards.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF LUSH:

I would recommend if you order or purchase any soaps from Lush that you cut the bar up into sample sized pieces. It’s really all you need, and one 3.5 oz bar can get you at least 7 or 8 separate showers. Once you have all of your pieces cut up, I would recommend putting the rest in a cool dry place, or better yet… the refrigerator.

HOW MUCH? WHERE CAN I GET IT?

Angel’s Delight cost $6.65 for a 3.5oz bar. It’s actually a cheap soap from Lush, where other soaps usually run in the $7.00 plus category. You can find Angel’s Delight at any local Lush store, or if you are unfortunate like me (sigh), you are forced to order it from the site not knowing what the soap will actually smell like. It’s really a gamble for us online buyers, but the surprise is fun nonetheless.

I just wish the shipping charges were fair. Lush charges about $8 for shipping on one soap, if you order more the shipping rate is the same. $8.
It’s not fair to charge me $8 for shipping on one soap, and $8 for 3. If I want to order just one it should be cheaper. Scandalous!

Angel's Delight is $6.65, which is reasonable. Slap on an addition $8 for shipping, and you're not so happy anymore.

WHAT MAKES IT SMELL SO DELIGHTFUL!?

Water (Aqua), Propylene Glycol, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Perfume, Titanium Dioxide, Tangerine Oil (Citrus reticulata), Orange Oil (Citrus dulcis), EDTA, Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), Sodium Chloride, Glycerine, *Limonene, *Linalool, D&C Red No. 33, D&C Violet No. 2, FD&C Red No. 4, FD&C Blue No. 1, Golden Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate and FD&C Yellow No.5), Golden Edible Lustre (Potassium aluminum silicate, Titanium dioxide, Iron oxides and hydroxides), Silver Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate and aluminum powder), Iris Glitter (Polyethylene terephthalate),

RECOMMENDATION:

I love Angel’s Delight; the scent reminds me of hot summer days and picnics with plastic cups of fruit punch and the juice mustaches young children walk around with as if it’s a new fashion statement.
It’s really a playful scent, and the scent lasts. I was surprised it did because the soap itself didn’t smell overpowering. Usually I only expect overpowering soaps to last on my skin.

This is also definitely a girly scent. But you could use it on young children as well. Boy or girl, children will enjoy this scent.

Lush, Karma Soap

This is one potent son of a gun! I ordered LUSH Karma soap because someone actually recommended I try it.

I was hesitant at first because the lack of positive reviews made me nervous. However, like I have said in my LUSH reviews in the past, I usually like what everyone else dislikes.

Karma soap took me to a place that I usually frequent in my local mall. Not a head shop, but a witch’s shop. Where tarot cards and magic books like the walls. Crystal balls in any size shape and color can be found here, yet there is something else about this little shop that makes it attractive to me. It’s not the beads that line the walls, nor is it the love spells, and revenge spells that the books promise. It’s the scent that lingers through half of the mall. The scent that practically speaks, saying, “Come visit me”. That scent is nag champa.

This is the first initial scent I inhaled when I opened my order from LUSH. I had 3 other soaps in there, but one screamed out above all the rest. “I’m here!”

I was excited, I immediately began cutting the Karma bar into smaller sized pieces because LUSH soaps are prone to melting really fast if you bring the whole bar in the shower with you.

This particular soap was powerful. It was like no other LUSH soap I had ever smelled before. It had that extra zing, and boy did it stink! (But in a good way of course) I cannot deny the nag champa incense scent that this soap gives off, but there is also another subtle hint of herbs in this soap. I was able to detect a faint smell of patchouli and something I just can’t put my finger on. The really is no other way to describe it other than saying, it smells like a witchy type shop. Hehe.

I didn’t even need to shower to have the scent stick with me. The glycerin type soap was a little slimy in texture to me while I was cutting it, and some of the soap stuck to my fingers. Even after washing them off, the scent stood with me for hours. I mean hours! And strong!

HE LIKES IT!

My boyfriend who isn’t too fond of my shower-shopping obsession even likes it. Which is odd because usually he is the one telling me I spend too much money on this hobby. (Yeah he calls it a hobby!) He thinks it smells like a head shop, but me, I smell a witch shop. So to each his own.

HOW IS IT?

Well to be honest I was a little nervous to use this one on my entire body in the shower. After washing my hands with it, I reeked of the scent. I liked it, but I wasn’t too sure if those around me would appreciate it.

I used it on my day off instead. I didn’t want to stink the place up because of my soap.

Karma soap is a deep orange tangerine color, however when you work up lather you will see that it is not going to drip orange and reds all over the place. It’s a clean refreshing bar, and it suds are white, not orange.

However it takes a little arm power to work up lather. But if you keep at it, you get somewhat of a lather going on.

Boy this bar smells though once warm water hits it. It was the most potent shower I have ever had. I have never in my life been so overwhelmed with a scent before. I loved it, but I could definitely see how some people might find this in the shower experience gagful.

Karma soap is an acquired scent. That’s the only way to describe it.

If you never like the smell of witch shops or head shops than I would avoid it completely. However if you enjoy these types of scents, then the Karma soap is a wonderful comforting and warm scent.

DRY TIME:

After drying up I didn’t feel like the soap had done anything for my skin, but leave it stinking wonderfully, it did however make me feel clean so, I was willing to let that slide. Soap with this much POW deserves a little slack.

STINK-O-METER-

This is the great gusto. I was able to smell this soap for more than 24 hours on my skin after using it in the shower. I used it in the morning, and I could still smell it when I went to bed.
When I woke up, there it was again, as strong as ever. I was amazed, however I didn’t like the scent greeting me in the morning. I usually wake up with a groggy stomach, so having this scent overwhelm me, and wake me from my sleep was a bit too much.

WHY DOES IT SMELL LIKE THAT?

Because it contains Propylene Glycol, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Perfume, Water (Aqua), Glycerine, Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin), Orange Oil (Citrus dulcis), Lavendin Oil (Lavendula hybrida), Pine Oil (Pinus), Lemongrass Oil (Cymbopogan flexuosus), Elemi Oil (Canarium commune), Sodium Chloride, Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), FD&C Red No. 4,

HOW MUCH?

Karma soap sells for $7.60 for a 3.5oz bar. However prices may vary depending on cut in LUSH stores. I would recommend buying at LUSH stores rather than online at www.LUSH.com, the shipping price is ridiculous on the site!

OVERALL

LUSH Karma Soap is by far one of my favorite soaps from Lush. I am ordering this again and again, and I cannot wait to add some more products from LUSH’s Karma collection.

RECOMMENDATION:

I would recommend this only to those who enjoy the incense type scents, and those who wouldn’t mind having the scent linger on them for 24 hours or more. It’s a really powerful soap, and it’s not meant for those with a weak stomach for strong scents.

TIPS-

-You can leave a small cut of this soap on a counter in a room and the room will smell of it for hours even after you remove the soap.

-Leave leftover soap in a cool dry place or in the refrigerator.

Lush Ooh La La Soap

I got a small cut of soap as a free sample with my last order from LUSH. It looked pretty all wrapped up in plastic with the small deli sticker on it. It read Ooh La La.

It was a deep purple in color, and is glycerin type soap.

I opened it up and smelled it, and it wasn’t too bad. It did however remind me slightly of LUSH’s Karma soap. As a matter of fact most of the soaps I got from LUSH reminded me of the Karma soap. I don’t know if the Karma soap threw off the scents of the other soaps, seeing how they were all shipped in the same box, but that was the scent I smelled in Ooh La La.

My initial reaction was, ooh I like it. Now lets try it.

IN THE SHOWER:

I knew that this small sample piece would only last for one shower, so if I liked it, I was going to have to order it. A cheap bar of soap would last quite a few showers if cut this small. LUSH soaps however have a tendency to melt pretty fast, so if you do order any LUSH soap, it’s recommended to cut it up into sample-sized pieces. Really that is all you need.

Anyways, I began rubbing Ooh La La all over my body, and I watched as the soap began to create small purple suds all over me, dripping to the floor. This soap was pretty messy, but it washed off without staining.

The purple colored suds and drips on the shower floor though were the least of my worries.

Ahhh---Choooooooo!!!

Suddenly the scent hit me. I was appalled. It smelt just like I was rubbing chili all over my body, and pepper, lots and lots of pepper! This was the first time I have been all out sickened by a scent in the shower. Now don’t get me wrong, there are some pretty nasty stinking bath products out there, but Ooh La La takes the trophy.

Why would LUSH do this to me? Why would they send me a sample of chili powder and pepper-scented soap? How disgusting!

Not only that but my bar felt slightly gritty. As I washed with it, I actually got the full feeling of washing with pepper. There were small scratchy grains of something in it. I imagined it was grains of pepper.

I immediately grabbed a bottle of Bath & Body Works body wash to get the horrible stink off of me. I definitely did not want to reek of a giant walking bowl of chili for the rest of the day.

I let the rest of Ooh La La fall to the floor and disappear down the drain. I honestly feel bad for anyone who may of spent money on this one.

DRY TIME:

I felt slightly cleaner after covering the horrible stink with my body wash. If I hadn’t used the body wash I would have stepped out of the shower feeling dirty and grimy, and most likely sneezing from the overpowering pepper smell.

My body did not feel 100% clean though, even after using my favorite wash. I still felt dirty, and I could still smell the disgusting chili powder smell. I used lotion and perfume to get rid of the last remaining stink buds that stuck to my body.

WHAT LUSH SAYS: (With my feelings cut in between)

A soap so deliciously (spicy) overflowing with (messy) grape juice (and pepper), lavender (where?), rosemary and thyme (and chili beef) it becomes a Provencal (and nasty) feast for the senses. Just one wash (if you can bear it) with this soap and you'll (run out of the shower) be transported (and sneezing) to a sun-drenched café (of dried out peppers) in the Mediterranean. C'est magnifique. (ECH!)

There, that makes more sense now. That fits the description about right. Haha! Take that! LUSH the liar!

WHAT STINKS?

Ingredients: Sodium Palm Kernelate, Propylene Glycol, Water (Aqua), Lavender Infusion (Lavendula hybrida), Honeysuckle Infusion (Lonicera capifolium), Marigold Infusion (Calendula officinalis), Sodium Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Grape Juice (Vitis vinifera), Perfume, Rosemary Oil (Rosmarinus officinalis), Thyme Oil (Thymus vulgaris), Lavender Oil (Lavendula hybrida), Lavender Absolute (Lavendula hybrida), Sodium Chloride, Glycerine, EDTA, Tetrasodium Editronate, D&C Red No. 33, FD&C Blue No. 1, Lavender Sprigs (Lavendula hybrida), Rosebuds (Rosa centifolia),

IF YOU DARE TO TRY IT:

You can buy Ooh La La at any LUSH stores, or online for (gag!) $8.55 for a 3.5 oz bar. Slap on $8.26 shipping and it becomes almost a $17 bar of soap. I mean chili goop. What a rip off. Where do they come up with these prices!? Why is this particular soap so expensive? It’s by far the worst one I have ever tortured my nostrils with!

RECOMMENDATION:

None.

I honestly don’t know who would enjoy washing themselves with a bar of soap with an overpowering scent of chili pepper.

Lush, Honey I Washed the Kids Soap Review

I had to try this one, and honestly I don’t know why I did not order it the first time around. I guess I was hoping LUSH would read my mind and send me a sample of Honey I Washed The Kids. I guess they’re not mind readers though because I never got it. So I had to buy my own. I was bummed about that, because I had no idea what I was buying, and all I had to go on was reviews from other Lushies.
The price was a bit high for only 3.5oz of soap. So it better be good at $7.75! This was one of Lush’s best sellers and the price of course reflected. Supply and demand. Grrr!

PACKAGED:

My soap came in a cute official LUSH box all wrapped up in a clear deli like wrap, with a deli sticker on it. This is already my THIRD order from LUSH and I have still yet to receive this elusive deli sticker actually filled out. Some very lucky lotto LUSH winners have gotten bars with names of employees who made their soaps, and an expiration date. So far none of mine have come with this. I feel like I’m missing out on the full experience, but whatever. I guess they have a bunch of lazy employees.

THE SOAP:

Lush soaps are cut from a huge block of soap. A pretty neat concept, until you get a bad cut.
I got an end cut again. Man! I’m sick of end cuts they’re always misshaped.
You see usually I cut my LUSH soaps into sample-sized pieces because they melt to quickly, and I can save the rest in the refrigerator. However every time I get an end cut I end up with jagged little sample pieces, which are just annoying.

Honey I Washed The Kids is almost the exact same color as a whether’s original suck candy. It is a light creamy brown. It reminded me of how I like my coffee. Extra light and extra sweet.
On the side, or top, (I guess it depends on your cut) is a glycerin soap, which on the site looks like honeycomb. Mine however was just an amber colored extremely thin layer that was on the side. When I tired to cut my soap into sample pieces the ‘beeswax or honeycomb’ fell off.

SCENT:

Whether originals all the way! This soap to me smelled nothing like honey at all. What I smelled was toffee, creamy caramel, and a hint of pecan? They really need to change this ones name.
Although I was disappointed with the ‘beeswax’, and my odd shaped cut, I wad happy that it smelled so delicious. The scent was strong, and after using it, I hoped it would last on my skin.

HOW IS IT?

In the shower Honey I Washed The Kids made the best lather I have ever gotten from a LUSH soap. It wasn’t a huge mass of suds, but it was not bad either.

The smell was present, and it filled my shower with its sweet creamy caramel like scent.
It washed off easily, and left no sticky residue behind.

DRY TIME

After drying off I was hoping traces of the soaps scent would be left with me. However it was a sad day when I noticed not even a subtle little hint of it. The sweet toffee smell was gone with the drain.

Not only that I didn’t notice any moisturization to my skin, and my skin was no softer getting in, than it was getting out.

Honey I Washed The Kids would have been an excellent soap if the smell had stayed with me. That’s all I’m ever really after when it comes to bath products anyway. Scent!

OVERALL:

I am addicted to the scent this bar gives off while I am taking a shower; I just wished it would of stuck around a little longer. Most LUSH soaps I used in the past were strong, overpowering, and stuck around for quite awhile. Honey I Washed The Kids however goes away the moment I dried off.

I would purchase this one again regardless though, simply because I enjoy the scent so much while I’m in the shower.

Lush, Sandstone Soap

Sandstone- the name just sounds painful.

Sandstone is soap from Lush that comes with sand attached to the top of the bar of soap; the soap itself is yellow in color and has some clear like white specks of soap in it as well. The sand is used for exfoliation, the soap for moisturization.

I got my free sample from Lush, because this was surely not a soap I would order on my own. Even the lovely picture on the Lush website looks like someone dipped the end of the soap into grits of sandpaper. Lush has this tendency to add odd objects into their products such as seaweed, flowers, confetti, glitter, and fruit. I don’t mind this so much, but sand belongs at the beach, not on my body, not for scrubba dub dubbin in the tubbin.

Because I refuse to waste anything without at least trying it first I had to use my sample cut of Sandstone.

The smell was similar to Lush’s Sexy Peel, but it smelled a little more chemically and fake. Pine Sol rings a bell, Mr. Clean lemon scented floor wash also rings a bell, and pledge. I used it anyways though.

I first rinsed my hair, shampoo/condition, la di dah dii doo. This is always done first to put the Lush soap through the test of time. You see, many Lush soaps have this tendency to melt fast when warm humid air touches it. Sandstone however was like a stone. It took it. It lasted, and only began to sweat at the temperature increase in the bathroom.

I then took the sample soap and began rubbing it all around, scruba dub dub.
At first the sand sort of stood to one end of the bar, but the more I began to scrub and produce lather the more sand came loose and ended up on the entire bar of soap.

It felt gross, but I was indeed getting exfoliation. I rubbed the soap around lightly so I didn’t cut myself, or drag it across my beauty mark on my chest (mole), I figured if I dragged it across my ‘beauty mark’ it would hurt like a son of a gun.

It didn’t take long to see my skin blotching up with red rashes from the sands scratchy surface.

The entire time I felt dirty. It reminded me of the times when I was a wee one and I’d be at the ocean and a wave would clobber me, filling my bathing suit with sand and water, leaving me with the most uncomfortable scrubby feeling.

The sand washed off with some effort. It didn’t take long, but it took far longer than it should have.

Dry Up:

My skin felt like it had just has a good scrubbing with a high textured piece of sandpaper. I was red all over, and still felt dirty, even after washing all of the sand off (Or so I had thought). I had some particles of sand left in areas I care not to talk about.

The lemon scent of the soap had vanished, and all I was left with was raw skin, sand up my keester, and a bad mood.

I ended up jumping back into the shower, and rinsing off with a body wash to make the sick feeling go away.

Where To Buy?

At and local Lush store, or at www.Lush.com for $6.95 for a 3.5oz bar. You can also find it on Ebay or Amazon.

Overall:

I don’t have sensitive skin, but according to Sandstone I do. It hurt to use it, makes you feel dirty before and after using it. Smell like furniture polish or floor cleaner. Does not moisturize my skin at all. Leaves it raw.
Usually I enjoy my shower, and my Lush goods, but Sandstone was a flop.

Those used to using abrasive exfoliation on there skin. Everyone who is not used to rubbing themselves down with sandpaper should avoid Sandstone.

My review also found on Epi
