How to Add Trendy, Bold Color to Your Hair Using Hair Dyes

The idea of adding bold bright colors to your hair is nothing new, however it is unique, because not everyone is capable of getting that deep purple streak, rocking red, or gorgeous aqua color in their hair, and that is primarily because they are not doing it right.

To get these beautiful bright Easter egg colored streaks in your hair, you do not need to go to a salon to spend $70.00+ for the results. You can do it right at home with a little patience.

What To Do:

The absolute best hair bleaching kit available. I find that if you purchase a Splat! hair coloring kit, the included bleaching agent that comes with it works the absolute best on darker hair. You will need 2 bottles of this bleach.

The plus side with this is that you will also get two Splat hair colors. These however are not a favorite of mine, as other colors from other companies work a heck of a lot better, and are far less messy.
If you have short hair only one Splat kit will be needed. If you have darker hair, or longer hair buy 2, because you will need to bleach your hair twice.

Once you have your bleaching kits, you will now decide where you want to add your colored streak. Divide that hair from the rest of the hair, and keep it separated! I use tin foil to make sure I am only bleaching the streaks I want done.

You will now begin to bleach your hair, once you have applied the bleaching formula to your hair wrap it up in a plastic bag. The hair needs moisture to continue to bleach it out.
Once it has lightened, you can now wash it out.

From here, dry your hair, you want to make sure it is as light as possible. If not use the second bleaching kit to dye it again to achieve even lighter color, or use any leftover bleach you have from your first kit. You want your hair as blonde as you can get it, almost white if possible.
Once you have your hair as light as it can get, you will not begin to apply the color you want to your lightened streak.

I am a fan of Manic Panic and 'N Rage. You can find these dyes at any local Sally's Beauty store. There is a ton of color ranges, from bubblegum pink, red, blue, aqua, teal and so on.

You will need to wear gloves when applying your color, as it will stain anything it touches. Once you have your color saturated through the lightened steak of hair, you will then wrap it in a bag to keep in the moisture, and then apply heat. I use a blow dryer. The added heat will give your color a brighter look and it will last longer.

Leave this dye in for 45 minutes for the longest lasting effect. However rest assured that when the color begins to fade out, you can always add more of it, as these dyes can be saved.

Next you will wash out your hair, and style as usual. If you notice any patches or missing spots, simply add more of the color until you have the desired level of color, and look.

All in all, adding these colorful streaks to your hair is a piece of cake, but you have to invest a few hours, and a few showers before you will get that desired level of color.
