Nexxus Sleek Memory Smoothing Spray; Does it Truly Train Your Hair to Go Straight?

I have been on a straightening kick for about a month now. I used a keratin treatment to smoothen out my locks, with really decent results, however the hair was still semi wavy in some sections, so I began the search for products that got good reviews in regards to helping straighten hair.

This was how I found out about Nexxus Sleek Memory Smoothing Spray.

Basically it promised to straighten my hair bit by bit, the longer I used it, the straighter my hair would get. Allegedly it tames the hair straight, which I found a bit unbelievable, but after reading such raving reviews on Amazon, I figured heck yes! Let me at it!

I had read that finding this formula was hard, however one trip to KMart and I had the bottle in hand, and on sale for $12.99. I was excited, but I am impatient. I was expecting instant results, however, this one does not work that way. Again, the more you use it, the better the results. I could live with that, I thought.

Weekly Results:

Week 1

I shower about 2 to 3 times a week. Due to this product though I showered 3 times hoping to rush the effects of the spray.

The first use the results did not show any signs of change in the areas I wanted it to target, which was at the back sides of my head, closest to the scalp.

I sprayed it in this area on damp towel dried hair, and went about my usual flat ironing process.

The second use, 2 days later and the result was the same. Nothing special, no signs of the wave near the back of my head depleting or diminishing any.
The 3rd use in the first week, and the results were just the same. I was beginning to notice that my hair was drying much faster, and styling a lot quicker than usual though.

Week 2

The wave towards the back of my head seemed to be flattening out slightly, and ever so slowly. However the wave is still present.

By the end of week 2, the wave was still there, but again, it was definitely looking as if it was smoothing out, and instead of having to run the flat iron over my hair numerous times, one or 2 strokes down that area was all it took to flatten it to a silky smooth finish.

Week 3

By the end of week 3, the wave was gone. I could allow my hair to air dry, but it would still dry puffy in that area. All in all, my hair was extremely easy to straighten, and I barely have to use the flat iron to get smooth straight results. Oddly enough though, there seems to be a lot of frizz at the top of my head towards my scalp. I am beginning to think that the formula is causing the hair to break though.

Week 4

My hair is much straighter than usual, and not as puffy when I allow it to just air dry. The problem however is that I am noticing a lot of breakage, not to the point of it being worrisome, but I have to stop and wonder how damaging this one is to my hair. While it has been smoothing out puff, and straightening up any waves or creases in my hair, I am seeing a spike in split ends, and split hairs that fall out while brushing.

Overall:

In my opinion, Nexxus Sleek Memory Smoothing Spray is a slow working process. Like a very watered down Brazilian straightening treatment. It does seem to dry out the hair a bit, but styling hair is much faster when using this spray. However if your hair is already dry and damaged, I imagine using this would not be within your best interest.
I have relatively healthy hair, with minor drying issues here and there depending on my shampoo and conditioner, the damage this spray seemed to deliver though is so minimal in comparison to the excellent results.
Although its a long slow process, it works, and it works well.
