This weekend I dedicated my time to throwing out junk makeup that I
bought yet don't use anymore. Or crap that I bought that turned out to
be...crap.
In my bucket of unmentionable makeups I came across a rectangular
compact of Revlon cream eye shadows. The pack of shadows for some reason
has always for some reason been attractive to me, and even though I
know the product sucks I can't help but 'look' every time I pass by a
Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow compact.
The packaging is what called me to the product in the first place.
Inside of a rectangular shaped compact are 4 different color cream eye
shadows. The lid bubbles out in the area where the eye shadow sits,
creating a neat and attractive package.
I bought Not Just Nudes quite a few years ago at my local CVS, and
believe it or not used it till there was barely anything left. You see
at the time I thought that you HAD to reapply eye shadow over and over
again. When I came across long lasting eye shadows though, the Revlon
Illuminance Cream Shadow became a product of the past. It sat in my
makeup bucket never to be touched again.
The reason...Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow- Not Just Nudes, does not
last for diddly squat. In order for the cream eye shadow to look good
on your eyes you must re-apply constantly throughout the day, which is
frigging annoying.
The colors are designed to blend into one another to create a matching
and sexy look for your lids. Not Just Nudes has 1 extremely dark brown
cream shadow, one light brown, another lighter then the last light
brown, and one burnt marshmallow type color.
When the 4 are blended together in sequence your eye has a complete look with little to no effort.
My Use:
I dipped my finger into the darker brown and applied it to my lower
lid. It slid on effortlessly, however because it has a silvery shimmer
mixed in, the look did not blend the way I wanted it to. Although the
shade looked dark in the pod, when applied it actually looked much
lighter due to the silver. I added more, and eventually I had a cakey
greasy feeling lid. I next applied some of the burnt marshmallow color
and just blended it in with the darker brown. The result was a lighter
golden shimmery brown.
I admit that I liked it, but I wished it was not so shiny. I don't
like greasy looking lids, so I applied a light dusting of my transparent
powder to it. This solved the greasy look while leaving behind the
color.
Issues:
One issue I had with Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow, Not Just Nudes,
was the fact that I had to re-apply nearly every hour. Touching up was
easy though and only called for a dip into a pod of color and a quick
blend in. Touch ups though became annoying, but if I didn't touch up the
cream shadow would gather in the creases of my lids making that
infamous yucky line everyone hates.
Another issue I had was the colors. Out of the 4 colors that came with
the compact, I only used 2. The other 2 were either too light, or too
shimmery for my liking.
I used Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow, Not Just Nudes for a few month
until I came across a shadow that did not leave behind a greasy look,
nor did it need constant touch ups.
Overall Opinion:
At the time I thought that Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow, Not Just
Nudes was a great eye shadow compact. Although I only used 2 colors, I
liked them. However when I graduated to better shadows I realized what a
pile of gunk this stuff is. Eye shadow shouldn't be applied every hour,
and eye shadows should not create a nasty gunky line in your creases.
The consumers have spoken, and this is why you can find these compacts
in dollar stores now. They are worth about a dollar though, and I
wouldn't spend more.
