This weekend I went on an all out L'Oreal HIP makeup binge. Whenever I
see the words NEW I have to give it a try. This weekend though my main
goal was to get my hands on a product called smudge pot, (an eyeliner
cream in a small jug) seeing how this smudge pot eyeliner was nowhere to
be found, I instead came across a counter that just puked up a bunch of
new L'Oreal products called HIP (high intensity pigment).
I found a pot of eyeliner, I grabbed a compact of bronzer, I swiped up
some mascara, and I even threw in some lip color (something I rarely
do). It wasn't like I needed all of this new crap; I wanted it, and to
be honest my older makeup products were past their expiration date
anyway (I guess).
My Mascara History:
I was a huge mascara junkie in my late teens. I applied two, sometimes
three coats, and then would curl my lashes. I at this time had long
thick lashes, and over time these lashes eventually got thin, short and
almost non-existent. This was due to too much use on the eye lash
curler. It took years to get my lashes back to a normal length, and
still they suffer. They are not the thick long lashes they once were.
Due to me losing my thick long lashes I quit using mascara all
together. I chucked every mascara and lash curler I owned. Now I only
use mascara when there is a big event or party I have to attend.
Why I Purchased L'Oreal HiP High Drama Volumizing Mascara, Ultimate Black:
It was truly a whim purchase. I was feeling 'HIP', and to be honest I
did not really even read the packaging before I bought it. Later on at
home though, the promise on the package sounded good, so I was glad I
took it home.
The formula promised the darkest lash I had ever seen basically. A
bold dark look, with maximum impact...not only that the mascara is safe
to use for those with sensitive eyes, or for those who wear contacts.
When I do my eyes up all nice, nice, I usually do them dark. I will
wear black eyeliner, and black mascara. Supposedly this mascara though
would be the darkest!
Okay, so let's put it to the test.
The brush is a standard application brush, nothing special about it
really. I dipped the brush into the tube and applied to my little
lashes. The formula was pretty runny but didn't drip or make a mess. The
dark formula stuck to my lash with ease, and yep, I can say it was
truly a really, really dark color. I was in love. The first application
and already my lashes had a deep dark dramatic look to them.
I knew that application number two would really make them dark. I was right.
However after applying a second coat I noticed some clumpage, some stickiness, some yuckyness.
It wasn't awful, but I surely was not expecting it. A few of my lashes
stuck together, and a quick pick to the lash and all was well.
Throughout the day though the mascara did eventually get flaky looking.
It was not a terrible mascara, but it also was not an excellent one. I
do enjoy the deep dark dramatic look it gives my eyes, but at the same
time I do not like having to pick at my lashes to rid them of flakes and
clumps. Doing so just causes loss of lashes if I am not careful.
Removal:
L'Oreal HiP High Drama Volumizing Mascara, Ultimate Black easily came
off of my eyes with a few swiped of a makeup removal pad. I would
recommend removing any makeup with removal pads. Soap and water hurts
and could get into your eyes.
Recommendation:
I do and I don't recommend L'Oreal HiP High Drama Volumizing Mascara,
Ultimate Black. I recommend it if it is cheap, but if you are not going
to get it for $5.00 or less then it truly is not worth it.
I spent $8.99 or so on the mascara, and if I could not get it for less
I would not purchase it again. If I could get it for less though, I
probably would.
For me its a 3 out of 5.
I can't really bash on it, because like I said, I enjoy the deep
dramatic look. With it's ups the product has its downs as well.
