Review: Chanel Mascara Base Coat

Recently I was given a box of designer makeup products and beauty products. In the depths of this glorious box I managed to weasel my fingers down to the bottom of the box to pull up a tube that was labeled with the signature Chanel logo. I didn't know what the product was at first, nor did I care. I saw the Chanel logo, and that was all I was after. Sad, I know.
What Was In The Mystery Chanel Tube?
The black square tube was labeled Chanel Mascara Base Coat. Dangit! I'm not much of a mascara wearer only because it weighs down my lashes and actually causes my eyes to hurt.
I figured a base coat would only add extra weight to my already sensitive lids.
I opened up the tube anyway to get a good look at the product. I had never used a mascara base coat, and to be honest I had no idea why one would need such a thing.
Inside of the tube was a standard looking mascara brush, however when I pulled out the mascara wand instead of the regular black clumpy gunk that comes out of mascara tubes, I was instead staring at white gunk. It reminded me of watered down frosting. It had a thick texture to it, but at the same time the texture was also runny.
My Use:
I figured it is Chanel, so it must be good right? So I applied some of the mascara base coat to my lashes. Seeing how in the box of goodies there was Chanel Mascara, I may as well try out the base coat, and then apply the mascara.
The base coat was white on my lashes, and took about a minute or so to dry. There were no clumps, nor did any of my lashes stick together so this was a plus.
After applying the base coat I figured out it's purpose. I knew that when I went to apply black mascara it would stick easier, make my lashes appear thicker, and not only that the color would appear darker. It all made sense; but I wondered would it work well.
My next step was to apply mascara.
Apply mascara came with ease, and I was able to find my lashes a lot easier, now that they were white. After applying mascara I could see a slight difference in my lashes. However the difference was no better than just applying 2 coats of mascara.
Am I satisfied?
Not really. I feel the whole base coat thing is just a cheesy gimmick to get you to buy their product. It does work though, but like I said; no better than applying 2 coats of regular ol' mascara.
I thought the whole concept was neat after I applied it, but after really thinking about the whole thing, I must say I was a bit disappointed. After applying 2 coats of mascara it was clear that the results were the same, had I not used a base coat.
Nice try Chanel. I think your products are great for the most part, but the base coat idea...it's a flunker; for me anyways.
Overall:
It is my opinion that Chanel Mascara Base Coat is just a waste of money. Stick to applying 2 coats of mascara for the same type of results.
