Hair Color Review: Nice 'n Easy, Perfect 10, New Shade (#2 Black)

I like keeping my hair dark but sometimes I will run into dye's that manage to make my hair black and also dull looking. Like a matte black, with very little shine. Worse case scenarios have included tints of blue or mahogany which I hated.

I wanted black hair, black shiny hair, but not so black as to where it made me look like a scary vampire. I know some of you may be thinking black is a simple color, but trust me, it's not. If I get the wrong dye, you'll see me cry.

My cousin was very adamant about trying Nice 'N Easy, Perfect 10 hair dye. She went on and on to tell me that he hair looks and feels so nice after she uses it, and it only takes 10 minutes for the color to take to your hair, which is like a world record compared to other dyes.

I have always been a fan of L'Oreal, but her hair color is usually always so nice looking, and so shiny. I figured just this once I would venture outside of my safe zone with L'Oreal hair color, and give Nice 'N Easy a try.

I came across a whole section of Perfect 10 colors, and wanted black. Turned out this shade of Black (2) was a new shade. This alone made me nervous, because obviously it meant their old shades of black were horrible; or so I imagined.

The kit came with a plastic tooth applicator, which I wasn't so sure about, considering my hair is very thick, and tends to kink up whenever I dye it. The price was also higher than what I would normally spend on hair color. At nearly $15.00, I purchased it and figured I could yell at my cousin if the dye sucked.

In The Box:

Inside the box came the usual methods of setting up the dye for your hair. You have a bottle of cloudy white formula, which you are too pour in the color contents, then shake well. I had the option to add either the tooth applicator, or a standard squeeze tip.

I wanted to try the tooth applicator, so I went with what was already on it.

Gloves are also included, as well as conditioner to use after coloring.

After mixing the formulas together I was a little disappointed that the overall mixture inside of the application bottle was not even half full. I have a lot of hair, and it has always pissed me off when companies skimp on formula. At nearly $15.00 a box, having to buy 3 kits just to do ONE application is a rip off. I knew immediately that the mixture would only cover half my head, so I was left with no other option but to brush the mix into my hair using the toothed application comb.

If anything I would at least get black highlights. A real yank if you ask me.

The mixture did only cover half my head, and I focused primarily on the top layer. I let the color sit in for the 10 minutes as promised, and went to take a shower.

Results:

The strands that the black dye colored were really, really nice looking with a high gloss beaming shine. The additional conditioner tube that was included did a wonderful job at leaving my hair feeling soft, silky, and moisturized.

You really have to let the color wash out of your hair fully in order for it to not be brittle when finished. If you don't get it all out, it could leave hair feeling dry. I also recommend using a LOT of the included conditioning treatment afterward. I personally used half the tube, and was thrilled with the results.

All in all I loved the even coloring, the added shine, and the way it left my hair feeling. However I would have really liked more formula included in the kit. There is seriously only enough dye in the kit to color the hair of someone with a very short bob hair cut. Shoulder length hair would need 2 boxes, and shoulder length thick hair would need up to 3 boxes, which sucks.

I recommend Nice 'N Easy Perfect 10 (black) to others, but like I said, if you have thick hair, expect to need more than one box.
