Lush: Dreamtime Bath Melt

I usually always have a hard time falling asleep. Being an insomniac is not a happy feeling, but I have been plagued with it for years, and have learned to just accept it.

In my time though, I have come across quite a few products that have helped me drift to sleep. I hate popping sleeping pills, so I always am on the look out for more natural alternatives such as aroma therapy, reading, pillow misters, sleep sound spa machines, and anything else that states it will help me either relax, or get to sleep easier.

While some work, others fail. It's always a 50/50.

I ordered Lushes Dreamtime Bath Melt because on the official Lush.com website, they boldly stated that this bath melt contains 'reassuring lavender and chamomile to calm your senses before bed'.

Seeing that I have always been a fan of Lush products, I figured I would go ahead an give this Dreamtime Bath Melt a try.

What is a Bath Melt?

A bath melt from Lush is basically a small bar that you place in your bath water. It slowly melts, and as it does it silkens the water, releases scent, and softens skin.

Packaging:

I ordered mine online because we don't have any Lush stores that are local. It came wrapped in a Lush piece of wax paper. As soon as I removed it from the box, I sniffed the paper, because usually Lushes products are so strong you can smell them through the paper they are wrapped in.

Dreamtime however did not smell of anything. I assumed it was because the wax paper it was wrapped in was sealed really good.

Once I got around to using it, I finally tore open its protective wax seal. Inside sat a rectangular bar which resembled a very small sliver of soap. I could see small dried up flowers and herbs sticking from the bar. Dreamtime has an off white coloring to it.

It looked nice, but I still thought that it was way to small. It's a 1 once bar, and even though it looks rather large on the website, it's really not that big at all. I'd actually compare it to one of those snack sized Snicker Bars that kids get on Halloween.

The scent hit me the moment I opened the package. It had a very nice mild scent of lavender, and something else in it reminded me of oatmeal, and pizza spice.

The scent may sound off, but believe it or not, it did smell nice. It is not the best scent from Lush I have ever smelled though, but it is decent. Unfortunately though, it was a very, very faint scent.

My Use:

Once in the tub, I dropped Dreamtime into the water, and watched as the small bar floated to the surface. I felt the bar as it slowly melted. It definitely had a very moisturizing quality to it, but my water was not changing at all. It was not getting any softer, or moisturizing.

The scent went undetected the entire time, and I couldn't smell it even after the entire bar melted up.
In around 8 or so minutes, the bar was completely gone, and it did absolutely nothing to my bath water.

Usually a small sized Lush bath bomb makes the water feel like silk, and it softens my skin.

Their number one selling bath melt though (which is Dreamtime) did nothing of the sort.

Overall:

Dreamtime Bath Melt had a lack of scent, and did nothing to my water. I didn't get the whole aroma therapy of relaxation either. Dreamtime pretty much did squat.

I wouldn't purchase this one again. At $5.95 for a small 1 ounce sliver that does nothing, is not worth it at all.
