I dye my hair about once every 2 months. When I first began dyeing my
hair I did not know that dyeing hair too much could actually lead to
dry, brittle damaged hair. I learned the hard way. I was a teenager, and
didn't quite know that something as simple as hair dye could ruin my
hair.
I thankfully, learned over time how to care for my hair to ensure that dyeing it often would not create any damage.
However you are probably here because your hair is damaged due to over doing it.
The first thing you will need is a hat! No just kidding. I know that it must feel that way.
There are ways to repair your hair, but it is going to take some time;
results will not be instantaneous, but they will come a lot quicker
than if you were to do nothing at all.
The first product I will highly recommend is Queen Helene's Cholesterol Conditioner. This conditioner does feel disgusting, as it has a mayonnaise/butter like consistency to it.
I don't recommend only letting it sit in your hair for 10 minutes, or whatever directions it has on the bottle.
I recommend that you wet your hair, and saturate your hair in the
conditioner. Fully saturated! Enough as to where you see the yucky
yellowish cream on every strand. Smother it even!!!
Next take a plastic bag. Any bag will do, but make sure it is plastic.
Leftover grocery store shopping bags work well. Place the bag around
your head, and tie it up. The moisturization and heat from your scalp
will ensure that the conditioner is getting fused in with every strand. I
personally would leave it on for an hour.
After that, take a shower, and rinse very, very well. Your hair will
be left feeling weighed down, and slightly grimy, but it is better than
having more breakage due to the being parched.
You will want to do this routine every week. During the week when not
doing this, you are going to want to get other products to maintain your
hair in between each high intense Queen Helene Conditioning.
If you will be styling your hair, be sure to pick up Queen Helene's Cholesterol Conditioning Styling Gel.
Besides that though, when you shower throughout the week be sure to be
using the best of the best when it comes to high intense moisturizing
conditioners.
I personally would recommend Nexxus Moisturizing Conditioner, as seen here.
Let it sit in your hair for up to 5 minutes after using a moisturizing
shampoo. Nexxus shampoos add a ton of moisture, and will not leave knots
behind. I find that any Nexxus Shampoo will work wonders as far as
moisturizing. The conditioner however is the key to getting your hair
back to it's healthy state.
Other products you will want to use daily include leave in
conditioners. One of the best ones I have come across is the ones you
make yourself.
You just need an empty spray bottle. Add some water, a dab of Queen
Helene Cholesterol (very small dab), and some Nexxus Moisturizing
Conditioner. Spray in, and go about your day. This mixture will protect
your hair from the elements, and leave it as moisturized as possible.
As I stated it is going to take a bit of time for your hair to get
back on track, but using products such as these will help you get
results faster. Believe me, the faster the better. If you were to ignore
damaged hair, it will break, split, look dull, and feel parched.
