Blasts from the Past: Top 5 Hairstyles from Way Back When

Hairstyles from the 1950s were some of my favorite looks. Hair styles were clean, fresh, and looked so innocent on young women.

Here is a lovely example of one of my favorite 50s looks.

Cuts on men were very short at the sides, with just a little bit of hair at the upper forehead area of the scalp. This clean crew cut is still popular, but you don't see all too many men sporting the look anymore. A similar example can be seen here.

Some of the wildest looks though came from the 1960's. The beehive hair is my favorite hairstyle, the only problem is, I do not for the life of me know how to create such a glamorous look without knotting my hair up into a messy ball.

Updos from the 1950s are also some of my favorite looks, and are still very popular even today. The updo is a preferred look for women in the summer time, and for prom time! The updo is likely never going to go out of style.

The most exciting thing about the 60's beehive, is that it is making a comeback! Yeah, I guess for those lucky enough to know how to tackle such a style!

Other hairstyles that were very popular in the past include a look I personally think was the worst hair style; and that is 'the mullet'. Short hair towards the top of the heads, and a long mane at the back. The look was very popular in the late 70s and early 80s. Some folks still wear their hair in the style of a mullet, and frankly I don't know why. It's makes women look butch, and men look like they were raised on a farm.

Another infamous trendy style that took place in the 1980s was 'the tail', aka 'rat tail'. Young men would cut their hair very short, and leave a long thin tail located at the back of their necks. Why this was ever even considered style is still beyond me. A lot of past trends though were not the most glamorous.

Another hair style that keeps making a come back is the adored 'Farrah Fawcette' cut. A puffed out layered type cut has come back time and time again. Although I personally don't prefer it, it's not so bad, and can still be seen worn by many women today.

The Bob Cut is another style that has made a complete comeback these recent years as well. The Bob Cut was really popular back in the 1960s. The short style has really made it's comeback after Katie Holmes and her darling daughter Suri were seen sporting the adorable look. Ever since, people have demanded the look for themselves, and for their children.

Many hairstyles from the 1800's can be seen worn on women during their wedding day.

As you can see, many hair styles from the past have managed to make comebacks, and some have yet to go away.

It won't be long till you see young boys sporting rat tails again and (ugh) mullets. Styles come and they go, sometimes we wish they would just go, but others definitely deserve to stick around year after year, century after century.
