Clairol Born Blonde- A Review

I have had pitch black hair for nearly 2 years now, and figured it was time for a change; besides that I got sick of looking around and seeing every chick looking to be like the girls on Jersey Shore, sporting my dark look. I like to be original, and usually when a trend pops up, I go the opposite way until that becomes a trend...and then I change it again.

With black hair being a trend still, I knew it was time to go platinum. I have had blond hair before, and I know how hard it is to go from a dark color to a light one, and in the past I have used dyes that promised to take my dark hair to bright new heights, and then my hair ended up looking like Ronald McDonald. $100 later, and a nearby salon, the fix surely cost me, and I prayed that this time the dye I was going to use, would do what it promised to do.

Clairol Born Blonde All Over Lightening for Dark Blonde to Dark Hair, promised to take my black hair to a blonde. I figured 'yeah sure!' but I went ahead and bought 2 boxes of it, because I have extremely thick hair, and 1 box wouldn't make the cut.

I applied it as directed, starting from the ends, working my way up to the roots, because the roots will dye faster than the rest of the hair. It made sense, and I went ahead and worked the formula into my hair.
The stink is horrible, beyond horrible. The smell a few times caused my eyes to water, and my nose to burn.

Once the formula was fully added to my hair, I then placed it at the top of my head, and waited for results. Heat began to pour from my scalp a few minutes into sitting. I got paranoid and almost ran to the shower to wash it out, but thankfully the directions stated that this heated feeling was normal. It was hot though, and weird compared to other dyes I've used in the past. I knew it could not be good for my hair, but seeing that my hair is relatively healthy I let the dye sit.

About 15 minutes in, my heart began to pound when I saw what was going on upstairs. My roots were yellow! Bright neon yellow! The ends of my hair were now a bronzed color, not red, but more penny copper, and the mid section of my hair was still black.

I had to wash it out at this point, because the hair by my scalp was turning white.

After washing it out, my results were pretty horrible. My scalp was yellow, bright yellow and looked horrible. The black hair toward the middle was still black, and the ends of my hair were copper red. It looked like a Gothic checkerboard, and nearly brought me to tears.

Luckily when buying this kit, I also picked up a darker brown dye in case the lightening kit destroyed my hair color.

I went ahead and put the dark brown dye in, to fix the mess that Clairol Born Blonde All Over Lightening for Dark Blonde to Black Hair, had left me with.

Thankfully my hair color was now normal. The results were a darker brown, with some copper lights which I like. However had I not had a dark brown dye kit to use afterward, I would have died having to look at myself for more than an hour.

So for those of you out there with black hair, looking to go blonde, do not, under any circumstances think that this hair lightening kit will help you. You will end up with horrible, horrible, tear inducing hair.
