Makeup Application Tips: Create Beautiful Illusions with Makeup!

I have loved makeup since I was a little girl; luckily for me my mother was not the strict freak who demanded that I keep my face makeup free till I was 18. Nope, my lovely mother was showing me how to apply makeup since I first began showing an interest.

Seeing that I had perfected how to apply eyeliner at the tender age of 8, I know a thing or two on what works, and what doesn't.

I'm not here though to teach you what colors look good on what skin tone, I'm basically here to share my knowledge on creating gorgeous illusions using makeup; such as ridding your under eyes of dark circles, making your face look thinner, creating a thinner slimmer nose, or making your eyes look larger and more full of life. All with makeup! Expensive brands are not needed, these easy illusions can be created even with dollar store brands.

1. Creating the Illusion That Your Nose Is Smaller

This is the absolute easiest illusion you can create, and all you need is black eyeshadow to create this convincing illusion! No nose job needed!!!

Dab your finger into the black eye shadow, be careful though not to use too much. Using too much will make things obvious and messy.

Lightly coat your finger in a fine dusting of the color, and apply it to both sides of your nose. Don't focus on the bulb of your nose, simply focus on the sides of the bridge, in the outer corners near your eyes. You will see that the shadow creates an illusion of a more narrow nose.

You will have to try this technique out a few times before mastering it, because you want the shading to be completely 100% even on both sides for the illusion to be convincing.

After you have shaded yourself a more narrow looking nose, you will then want to very lightly powder the area with a light, or translucent powder. This fades the shading in more evenly making it less obvious.

2. Lose Pounds Off Of Your Face

Some women have larger more round faces than others, but with an easy makeup tip, women with rounder fuller faces can create the simple illusion of a more slender face.

Blush is the main ingredient you will need to master this illusion. I don't use just one color of blush though. I use two.

I create a contour with the blush around the upper parts of my cheek and brush upward to create a tightening shadow that creates high convincing cheekbones.

After using a light pink colored blush, I then use a darker purple shade of blush to make he pink blush look less monotone.

I only use a very small amount of the purple blush though, because as we all know, using too much blush will leave you looking like BoBo the clown.

I dab my brush into the blush and wipe a very small swish of it on top of the pink layer.

Not done yet though, because in order to make cheekbones look like real convincing born with it cheekbones, I then layer a very fine amount of concealing mousse all over my face and on top of the blushed on cheekbones. This creates an illusion of natural skin color, but at the same time it leaves my colored on cheekbones poking through, but making it appear natural and subtle, and not painted on sloppily like a clown.

3. Creating The Illusion That Your Eyes Are Bigger and Brighter

All you really need for this ladies is a steady hand and some black eye liner. I personally prefer L'Oreals Hip cream liners which is sold in a small glass tub with an application brush for around $11.00. Click to view.

Basically you just have to line your lids with the black eyeliner, and create a small winged crease at the edges of the eyelid. Some call it an Egyptian wing; really though no matter what you call it, the result is a defined, wider, brighter looking eyes, and the wing is glamorous with a subtle touch of edge, and mystery.

After you have applied the dark liner, you will then want to add in any color of eyeshadow you want. I'm sure you have plenty of eyeshadow lying around. Adding the eyeshadow in a lighter shade such as pink and purple mixed together, really creates a dramatic look; this dramatic look though is pretty, and not tacky.

So basically you can create many illusions using makeup, learning technique in shadowing contours on your face that are not really there, is honestly the best way to create a look, that does not look like you! When you get really good at shading you can actually transform your entire face into a face you wouldn't even recognize. Really excellent makeup artists can even transform ordinary people into look alike celebrities all by creating an illusion with makeup.

When it comes to creating dramatic, yet natural looking illusions, never think inside the box, always be willing to try new things, even if they don't seem like they are good ideas, you really never know what you can create with the right shading techniques. You may even create something beautiful by accident!
