I have always liked handbags and accessories made by Chanel.
Unfortunately affording everything I like by Chanel is impossible, so
when someone throws you a designer brand for free, you of course take it
with a smile...even if you think the product sucks. Not all things
Chanel impress me though. I find their line of beauty products to be way
the hell over priced, and they work just about as well as a $5.00 brand
would. Up on the chopping block today is CHANEL Irreelle Duo- Silky Eye Shadow- River-Light.
Packaging:
CHANEL Irreelle Duo- Silky Eye Shadow- River-Light is a very small
compact which contains 2 colors of eye shadow. The compact is black, and
has a miss-shaped rectangular shape to it. Of course the official
Chanel logo is etched into the compact. Status baby, its all about
status. Hah!
Lifting up the compacts cover, inside lies 2...yep, count em', 2 different colored eye shadows.
When I first opened it I really loved the colors, and how well they
would blend and match together. I also adored the cute quilt texture
that the color palette had molded on it.
Below the palette of eye shadow lies 2 small sponge head application
brushes. One is your standard cheap-o brush, while the other is a much
smaller sponge brush which is apparently meant for the outer creases of
your eyes for precise blending. Either way, both of these sponge brushes
suck, just because they have a Chanel logo on them doesn't mean they
work any better than a dollar store sponge brush.
I recommend using your eyelid brushes. Professional ones. The small sponge brushes suck, no matter what name brand you pop on them.
The Colors:
River-Light in my opinion should actually be called Swamp-Light- I
don't mean that in a bad way, it's just that the 2 colors are green. One
color is a darker shimmering light green, while the other is a bit
lighter with a more olive tone to it. Together though the colors will
match and blend perfectly to create a nice summer or spring finish to
your eyelids.
My Use:
I first applied the lighter olive green to my entire lid, and then
took the darker shimmering green to the corners to shade and contour my
eye.
I must say I was a little disappointed in the lack of vibrancy. The
colors a beautiful, don;t get me wrong, but once again Chanel fails to
impress me when it comes to their eye shadows. The colors are far too
light and actually leave my eye looking lackluster and slightly dull.
The eye shadow does blend easily, and is silky soft. On the eye you
feel nothing, but at the same time the colors don't really deliver
anything. So where they succeed in the aspects of light cover, they fail
when it comes to vibrant noticeable colors that pop.
Overall:
Not impressed. For my medium light skin tone green colors usually pop
and look really fabulous. CHANEL Irreelle Duo- Silky Eye Shadow-
River-Light though failed to pop, and failed to impress.
I will say though that those with very light skin tones, CHANEL
Irreelle Duo- Silky Eye Shadow- River-Light may work wonders. I also
believe that these colors would show up quite well on women of color. Me
being somewhere in the middle though, they just don't work as well.
Pricing:
CHANEL Irreelle Duo- Silky Eye Shadow- River-Light comes to (gag)
$40.00 for the duo. Ladies, your paying mostly for the name brand when
it comes to these eye shadows, because there are plenty of shadows out
there that will give excellent results for a fraction of this duo.
