When Lush Christmas Cake Soap was delivered to my door, I was
immediately disappointed by the shape and the odd cut I got from
Lush.com.
You see on their website they display Christmas Cake as a standard cut
bar of rectangular shaped soap. Yet In their holiday newsletter mailer,
they show Christmas Cake shaped like a slice of pie. This was not the
case for my cut. In fact my cut was far from the two cuts I'd seen. In
person Christmas Cake arrived cut into a long thin block. About an inch
and a half wide, by 3 inches long! This was not the standard usual cut
I'd expect from Lush, so it was weird.
Not only did the narrow cut make using it in the shower annoying, but
it was also already cut into three sections! One slab of my soap was
yellow and creamy, another slab of it was a dark green glycerin type
soap, and the last section was a dark maroon glycerin base soap.
Basically I got 3 sections of 3 different colored soaps, all about 1
inch wide, and 1.5 inches thick.
It was interesting to say the least, but I hated the way they cut it
up in sections on me, and I hated that it was long and narrow, because I
usually cut my Lush soaps up into small trial sized pieces, because
every Lushie knows that Lush soaps are legendary known as fast melter's.
I usually cut off a sliver to use during my shower, and refrigerate the
rest to keep it for later uses.
Unfortunately due to its narrow thin cut, I couldn't figure a way to slice this one up in order to spare it for future uses.
Basically I had to use one entire section of the already (3) cut bar
of soap(s). I found it to be annoying and wasteful, but I was left with
no choice.
Now with that annoyance aside, I have to admit, that I love, love, loved
the smell of Christmas Cake. The Lush website describes Christmas Cake
as 'looking like cake (not in my case), and smelling like cake' (again
not in my case).
Although Christmas Cake didn't smell anything like cake to me, it did
smell like the most creamy, fruity delicious soap I have ever used. It
has a very strong and obvious hint of cherry and almond. In ways it
reminds me of Snowcake Soap, only Christmas Cake packs a much stronger
and noticeable kick.
In the bath Christmas Cake literately fills the entire room with this
cherry almond scent. On skin it lathers into a creamy lotion like
substance that leaves skin feeling soft, silky, clean, and best of all
smelling like heaven for a few hours after using it.
The downside though is that Christmas Cake is fast melting. The one
slice I used was pretty large and it melted away in just a few short
minutes during use. I don't recommend you leave this one in a soap dish,
because it will likely turn into a messy puddle of soap goo.
As far as being a festive Christmas scent, I don't think it fits, but
it is a great scent, leaves your skin feeling and smelling great, so it
is all good in my book.
I do hope though that Lush gets it together and doesn't send anyone else such a ridiculous long and narrow cut!
I highly, highly recommend Christmas Cake. You can pick it up at any
nearby Lush store, or you can get it online for $6.95 for a 3.5 ounce
cut. Hurry though, because Christmas Cake Soap is a limited edition
soap, and once it is gone, it is gone for good, and you can never be
sure if Lush will bring it back again next Christmas season.
