Two weeks ago, I was sent my favorite newsletter in the mail, LUSH!!!!
I imagined everything inside would be the same old products that the
company sells month after month- with perhaps a new bath bomb in the
mix. To my surprise though I was greeted with numerous pages of new
products called Retro Lush. Technically they are not new products, just
old ones brought back to the Lush stores for newer customers to try out.
I was pretty excited, and the next day had to get online to place an
order on a few of the products that tickled my fancy. One product in
particular was a Retro Lush soap called Soap Sod. What peaked my
interest in this particular soap was the fact that it came packed with a
scent that I actually thought would be interesting, relaxing, and it
would set a summertime mood while using it. Soap Sod supposedly smelled
like grass! Not just grass though, packed within this 3.5 ounce green
colored bar of soap I would also be experiencing the scents of lavender.
The equivalent to bathing in a meadow of fresh cut grass with flowers.
It just sounded too good to pass up.
Pricing:
The 3.5 ounce bar of Soap Sod came to $5.95. You can buy larger cuts
at Lush stores if you have one nearby. For all of us unlucky folks with
no Lush store in sight, we have to order what is given to us on the
Lush.com website.
Appearance:
On the Lush.com website, Soap Sod looks like a plain Jane run of the
mill bar of soap. It has a light almost neon green color to it, and
seems to be a basic soap; when I say basic, I mean it appears to not
have any seeds, pieces of grass, or dried flowers in it, like many Lush
soaps do.
In person Soap Sod looked just the same. Nothing special, yet true to it's appearance on the site.
Scent:
Now at first I thought I'd love Soap Sod. I thought it would take me
to a time when I was small, running around the yard while my dad mowed
the lawn. However once I opened Soap Sod I was pretty surprised to find
that it did in fact smell like fresh cut grass, only it was just too
strong for me to love.
I also wondered why on earth I would want to walk around smelling like
grass!? I love woodsy scents, but Soap Sod was something from a travel
channel special. Now I've heard of green earth, and I am all for it...
but this was just a bit much.
At any rate though, I bought it, I was stuck with it, and I was no way
in hell going to waste it. So I went ahead and gave it a try. I
imagined that once the warm water hit the soap it would release some
sort of floral scent.
In The Shower:
Nothing floral released here. Soap Sod gave off a powerful punch of
grass. Lots and lots of grass, and to be quite honest the overwhelming
scent was just too dang much for me to handle. I knew I'd be pawning the
rest of Soap Sod off on a friend or relative. Yet, who on earth would
want a soap that smells like grass? Someone hopefully. I wondered if I
could even give this one away. Haha.
Besides the high pungent stink of mowed grass, I will say that it did
leave my skin feeling pretty soft, and that it left behind a sort of
green color to my showers water that had not drained yet.
Overall:
My experience with Soap Sod was gross. Although it leaves skin feeling
nice, it also leaves skin smelling like grass, so its a win loose
situation.
I would only recommend Soap Sod to those who are totally into nature
scents. If you adore the scent of grass than this one would be for you.
You must truly adore the scent of mowed grass though. I enjoy the scent,
but in the shower, Soap Sod is just too much grassiness for me.
