Review: Revlon Colorsilk, Dark Mahogany Brown #32

I dye my hair about once a month. I get sick of my hair color pretty quickly, and I have tried just about every color imaginable. My face is pretty universal, I can use just about any hair color and it looks fitting.

I prefer lately though darker colors as they tend to bring out my eye color, and skin tone more.
In my time though I have run into some pretty horrendous results using certain hair dyes. I'm talking penny copper colors, Ronald McDonald red hair, or checker streaks.

L'Oreal has always been a favorite of mine, but when I'm looking to dye my hair on a budget, sometimes L'Oreal is too pricey, and I give other companies a try.

Two weeks ago I went with Revlon Colorsilk, Dark Mahogany Brown #32. It is a nice dark brown color with a very subtle hint of mahogany. The color on the box looked pretty, and on my dark brown hair it claimed it would lighten it up into a mahogany color. (Use the color chart on the box, it's usually relatively dead on)

I have very thick hair, so I bought 2 boxes of it.

The kit comes with a pair of gloves, after dye conditioner, color serum, and an applicator. You are to pour the color serum into the applicator bottle and shake it.

The thing that disappointed me most was the fact that even after adding the color serum to the liquid already inside of the applicator bottle, the contents were half empty, which was a jip! It was good I bought 2 kits, but still only half the serum in the bottle is messed up! If you have long think hair, I suggest buying 4 kits if you intend on doing full cover. Which likely will be the intention.

I applied the dye to my hair roots to tip. The serum itself had a thicker consistency so I did not experience any drips, which is a plus.

After my hair was fully saturated in the dye, I covered my hair with a plastic bag (you can use ones from the supermarket), it locks in some heat and moisturization for better results.

I let the dye sit for 45 minutes till I could see the drastic changes.

I then hopped into the shower. It took about 10 minutes to fully rinse the color from my hair. You have to rinse till the water runs clear. If you don't you will end up with very parched and unruly hair, so make sure you work at it good.

After the water runs clear, you then apply the conditioner. Skip out entirely on using shampoo, which will cause hair to feel and look dry and dull.

The conditioner that came with the kit worked nicely, and left my hair feeling smooth, silky, and manageable. I wish they would sell this stuff in big bottles because it really does a wonderful wonder to hair.

The Results:

After allowing my hair to air dry I took a good look at the results in the mirror. No streaks, no checkerboard, no missed strands. My hair was a nice rich mahogany color, exactly as the box promised!

Overall:

I recommend it. If you are looking for a change, and were afraid of Revlon Cornsilk due to the low price, fear not, this stuff works just as good as the expensive kits, and the results are beautiful.
