CHANEL Professional Eye Shadow Base, Beige: Review

I was told by a friend that your eye shadow will stay put, and last longer if you first apply a base coat to the entire eye lid. She also told me that any ol' liquid foundation could do the trick just as well as an actual products labeled Eye Shadow Base. I used this method for years, and the results were always great. Foundation as an eye shadow base does in fact work; quite well too. However this past week I was given a bag of free makeup products, and inside of the bag sat a black stick that I first assumed was eye shadow. When I read a little closer though, I learned that I was in fact holding a Chanel Professional Eye Shadow Base, in Beige. I was excited to give it a try, to use a real base instead of my liquid foundation would be neat. Plus I could see if it worked better than the foundation method.

Packaging:

Chanel Professional Eye Shadow Base, Beige comes packed in a plastic click up stick.

The top pops off, and inside you have a white brush tip. In order to get the base to come out of the stick, you have to click the stick at the bottom, which pushes the base up out of the chamber and into the brush.

My Use:

I clicked the stick up a few times until some of the base color saturated the brush applicator. The color was a shimmery beige, with nothing spectacular that stuck out. I found it odd for it to have color at all, but it matched my eye lids color so well, it didn't matter.

I didn't quite like the fact that the base had a shimmer to it, because I thought it would make my matte shadow shimmer. I hate shimmer on the eyes because to me it looks greasy and gross.

I hoped that once I applied my shadow over the base, it would conceal the shimmer all together.

Anyhow, I applied the base to my lids. It went on creamy soft, and spread with ease. However it began to dry as I was spreading, which made things a little difficult, and I noticed I had some darker clumpy patches of color in some areas, and other areas only a thin coat. I hoped this wouldn't make my shadow clump up and look uneven!

I couldn't blend the base in anymore, so I had to use what I had on the lid. I knew applying more would only result in more darker shaded areas.

Once my eye lids were covered well enough, I then began to apply my eye shadow on top of the base.

I loved the fact that my eye shadow went on without any issues. There was no clumping, no darker shading in areas where I had more base, and there were absolutely no signs that shimmer had gotten through.

I got what I wanted. A matte look, with flawless cover.

But Did It Last?

I was interested in seeing how well CHANEL Professional Eye Shadow Base: Beige lasted. I could easily get all day last with my usual liquid foundation. With my liquid foundation though, by the days end my eye lids would look a little faded, but not by much at all.

With CHANEL Professional Eye Shadow Base: Beige not only did I get all day last, but my lids kept my eye shadow where I put it. Not a single sign of fading, no creases. Nothing but perfection. The eyeshadow liner I applied to the lower lid was even in place still! This was quite a surprise because when I apply eyeshadow as liner, it always blends in and fades with other colors on the lid. This was not the case with CHANEL Professional Eye Shadow Base: Beige. Everything seriously stood put.

Overall:

Very, very impressed!

Although using liquid foundation as a base works really well for keeping eye shadow in place... it is nothing in comparison to CHANEL Professional Eye Shadow Base: Beige.

Recommended:

Highly. There is enough base in the stick to last about 2 to 3 months. You only need a light layer to get perfect results.

There are also other colors available, but I am not sure if they will effect the actual color of your eye shadow, so I recommend using the beige color, which is a close match to medium light skin color.

Pricing:

CHANEL Professional Eye Shadow Base: Beige is a bit jaw dropping, at $30.00 for the stick. In my opinion though, for what it does, it is worth it.
