I have never been much of a mascara wearer. I have sensitive eyes, and any added weight to my lashes causes fatigue and redness.
However, if I know I have to be somewhere where I have to be all
dressy dressy, I will use one thin coat of mascara to add volume and
oompf to my lashes.
When I came across a neatly lined up row of new mascara products from
CoverGirl I knew I had to try it. The mascara was called CoverGirl Exact
EyeLights Mascara and they had these unique colors that were designed
for specific eye colors.
I went with Black Gold because my eyes change from blue to green to
hazel (Yeah, they're weird). I went with Black Gold though because it
sounded like such a unique color.
The mascara comes in a package where the actual tube is sealed off
with a cap, and the mascara application brush is neatly displayed at the
side of the tube. I thought it was cool because I was able to see what
type of brush it came with. The brush however looked simple, yet
efficient, as I have seen similar brushes before. The application tips
of the brush are nicely separated, yet small to avoid messes.
Anyhow, the mascara promises to brighten the actual eye color with
it's unique formula. Being the gullible person I am, I feel for the
entire thing. It sounded perfect, it looked perfect- and HELLO- Black
Gold!? How cool does that sound!?
I got to using the mascara yesterday morning before work. I opened the
package, twisted off the cap from the tube, and inserted the
application brush.
I pulled out, and...uhm...the color looked black. Nothing else. No golden highlights. It was plain and simple black.
I figured perhaps the micro fibers of gold would be located within the
mascara, and would only show when I actually applied it to my lashes.
So that's what I did.
Unfortunately it was like swiping on cheap black mascara. There was no
highlighting, no golden hue, no nothing. I seriously could have saved
my $6.97 and bought 6 tubes of mascara from a dollar store and gotten
the exact same results.
The mascara itself is somewhat runny compared to what I am used to. It
clumped, but the clumping was very small and minor compared to other
mascara's I have used. The unfortunate thing about CoverGirl Exact
EyeLights Mascara though was that it did not brighten my eyes, and it
did not add any length or volume.
I used 2 coats just to get it to look like there was mascara on my lashes. One coat would not cut it.
Overall:
I was disappointed. I spent way too much on this mascara and it did
nothing unique. It was too runny, and the color was black. I have no
idea why they even bothered to label this one black gold. Its sad to say
that the name was likely added to entice shoppers, which it does. It's
unfortunate.
After being so impressed with their new CoverGirl & Olay
concealer, I thought that this mascara would be the bomb digitty...it
wasn't. It was just a dud.
