Remington Shine Therapy Conditioning Straightener

About 2 weeks ago, I purchased a Conair hair straightener which I absolutely hated. The thing ripped hair, had an uncomfortable grip, and failed to straighten my hair due to the lack of high heat settings.
I returned it after trying it, and bought the Remington Shine Therapy Conditioning Straightener. It was the straightener I wanted initially. I nearly passed it up though because the Conair came to around the same price, so I assumed cheaper straighteners would all work the same; like junk!

I took my chances though, and figured if it sucked I'd return it, and just get a high end priced Chi Straightener.

The reason I wanted to try the Remington Shine Therapy Conditioning Straightener though was due to the odd unique features it had.

The Remington's ceramic plates were infused with with a blend of conditioners and avocado oil, which in turn prevent damaged hair, and add moisturization.

I was hesitant at first because my hair tends to get greasy easier than most. I hoped that the infused avocado oils wouldn't make my hair look greasy. The promise though was for shine, and I hoped the packaged promise lived up to it's statements.

Appearance:

The straightener is a light baby blue in color, which is nice compared to my older black Hollywood 5 Star model. The buttons on the straightener are positioned in an odd spot. They are placed right on the handle just above where you would hold the straightened while straightening. I thought the placement of buttons would get in the way during straightening.

There is no heat setting dial on the straightener. There are 3 silver shiny buttons. One button is to power the straightener on, and the other 2 buttons are to lower and higher the heat settings.

The straightener goes up to 430 degrees, which I knew would pack enough heat to straighten my thick wavy hair type. Anything less, and my hair tends to not straighten as well.

My Use:

I went ahead and plugged the straightener in. I at first thought the straightener was dead on arrival, but I had to press the on button for it to power up.

Once it was on, a digital plate on the straightener lit up blue. 30 seconds after allowing the ceramic plates to heat up, I was ready to use it.

I ran it through my hair and initially liked how easy everything was going. My hair straightened after a few swiped of the straightener.

The straightener does in fact straighten hair, and it does it well. However I noticed that I had to repetitively run it through the same strands of hair over and over again to get the perfect pin straight look. My hair though is thick, and wavy, so I always have a tougher time than most.

Although it took a bit of work, the straightener did in fact get my hair pin straight with about 40 minutes of running it through my hair.

It does take some time, and is a little slower than my high end model that broke. Sniff sniff.

All in all though it works, and it did leave my hair shiny. As far as adding extra shine though, I'd have to say no. My hair is always a shiny star when I straighten it, and the Remington didn't do anything different when it comes to adding shine to my locks.

It works though, and that's all I needed it to do. It left hair pin straight, soft, and looking fantastic.

There are however some issues that the model comes with that I need to share.

The first issue being the clamping strength. Like I said, I have thick hair, and straightening my hair type works fastest when the straight iron has a nice tight hold when I clamp the straightener down on it. The Remington does not clamp all that tightly, which I know adds more styling time to the already long process.

Had the clamping been stronger, I know it would have cut styling time down by at least 15 minutes.

The next issue I had with the model was the placement of the heat setting buttons. They are located way too close to the area on the straightener that you hold. Numerous times I kept hitting the plus setting. For me though this was not an issue because I used the highest setting. For those who need only lower heat settings you have to be careful because you can accidentally higher the heat setting without knowing it.

Overall:

For $50.00 its decent. I have used better, but like I said the straightener did in fact straighten my hair to a sleek finish. It has it's quirks, but it works.
