Review of Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser

Whenever I run out of exfoliating cleansers I always seek out a new product that I have yet to try. Usually I keep my cleanser purchases under the $10.00 mark, unless it is one I already know and love, maybe, just maybe I will re-purchase it depending on the sale.

I was given a free trial sized bottle of Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, without knowing the price of it at first. There was enough product in this tube to last me for about 2 weeks of daily use, which in my opinion is enough to give the product a fair review.

When it comes to cleansers, with exfoliation I look for 2 things. How well it cleans, and how it improves my skin over time.

When I got around to finally using my new trial squeeze bottle of Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, I liked it. It was nothing special, but it worked well enough, similar to what I would expect from any old exfoliating cleanser.

It had a nice fresh scent, which reminded me a lot of Morning Burst citrus, and it had a small amount of gentle exfoliating beads within the orange colored creamy formula.

Naturally I wet my face first, and went ahead and began rubbing the cleanser around my face. The cleanser foams up nicely, and the exfoliating beads are gentle. Probably to gentle for my liking, but it did the job without irritating the skin. I imagine this one would be wonderful on those with very sensitive skin. For those of you looking for a really intoxicating exfoliator though, this one fails to meet the mark due to how gentle the beads are, and how sparse they are within the formula.

After rinsing my face of the cleanser my skin felt clean, very clean, and very soft. This was the second plus when it comes to Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser. It cleanses well, without tearing your face up. However it does not really exfoliate all too well, as after using it I ran a ponds facial wet wipe across my face and still found traces of old makeup left behind. This is a major no-no, because these neglected areas would have broken out had I not used a wet cleanser towelette afterward.

I do use towelettes afterward after every exfoliating cleanser, and this was not a big deal for me, but for those who do not follow up with wet towelettes, will not really be getting a full 100% clean face, so it fails in that department.

Overall, Clarins One Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser is just run of the mill for me, but my jaw dropped when I saw that many sites selling this cleanser had it marked at prices that are just ridiculous. I am talking thirty to fifty dollar range, and since it does not cleanse your face fully, it is not worth that, not even close. $5.00 would meet the standard for what I would pay on this one.

However since it is so expensive, and only works half way decently, I cannot fully recommend it. Sorry Clarins, you need to check your pricing on this one.
