Makeup and I have been friends since I was about 12. Yep, Mom let me
wear it when everyone else still considered chapstick a lipstick. Silly,
foolish girls!
My uncle though, who knows my love for new makeup and beauty products
always makes it a point to bring me free items that he gets from clients
in New York. Since he began bringing me the things they never opened or
used, I have gotten some really spectacular items; All. For. Free.
One item that I haven't mentioned in the past is Cliniques High Impact Eye Shadow, in the Stormcloud (17) color.
It came packaged in a beautiful metallic silver container, that slides
open revealing the eye shadow, and a long sponge application brush.
The Color:
Stormcloud is not necessarily the name I would of slapped on to this
eyeshadow. It is far too feminine and lilac flower in color to even
consider it a stromcloud. This stomcloud however has a more pastel
purple lilac to it that makes it a little bit 'nicer' than an angry
storm cloud.
It has a light grayish tint mixed with a vibrant pastel lilac color.
It's a smoky purple overall, and even though they have the name off, I
still think it is a lovely color.
On The Eye:
I did not intend on using the sponge application wand that came
included in the compact. Instead I used one of my own professional
brushes to apply the shadow. I find the sponge brushes to be poorly
made, and don't work well at all when attempting to mix colors.
Anyhow, my plan was to fill my entire lid with Stormcloud, and use a
small bit of black shadow at the ends of my eyes for contouring.
Clinique, Stormcloud, High Impact Eye Shadow applies easily, but
lightly and it leaves behind a powdery trail that you have to make sure
you dab off using a dry tissue. If you don't wipe it off, it will land
in your eye, and burn!!!
I had to apply around 3 layers of the color in order to get the color
to even show up. It was a bit annoying, but once I had enough
recognizable color, I was able to make my final decision on how I felt
about Stormcloud.
My final thoughts were that Stormcloud was far too pastel, and easter
egg looking to be a shadow I would use more than once. Even after lining
my outer lids with black, and blending the color it still looked to a
bit too light and Easter like. At least though adding black to my outer
lids allowed Stormcloud to look like a Stormcloud... only, a very weak one.
Overall:
Mediocre.
I've used similar eyeshadow that I picked up at Walmart for only
$1.00. Clinique, Stormcloud, High Impact Eye Shadow is basically what I
would consider a dollar store eyeshadow. Nothing spectacular, but
nothing awful either.
Where To Find:
I was unable to located Clinique, Stormcloud, High Impact Eye Shadow
being sold at any online beauty supply stores, and the official Clinique
site does not carry this color anymore either.
I did though locate it on Ebay, being sold for decent prices. If you
are still interested in this color, Ebay is likely where you will find
it.
