Review of Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick - Pink Sand

This past week I went out on a lipstick binge, and scooped up just about every pink colored shimmery lipstick that seemed to catch my eye. This was basically how I ended up inviting Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick - Pink Sand, into my cosmetics collection.

Sadly though, this lipstick was returned nearly as quickly as it was purchased.

The main reason Pink Sand made it into my shopping cart though, and into my life was because through the clear cap the color looked rather...well...sensational. It had a nice light pink coloring to it, with a beautiful silver like metallic finish that I assumed would look fantastic on my lips, or worn as an overcoat to a darker more bold colored pink. I've always been fond of layering colors.

Pink Sand goes on smoothly, this I cannot deny, and it feels lovely on the lips, the reason that I couldn't keep it though was because the color did not show up on my lips. It did nothing but add a shiny clear like shimmer to my lips, and the pink tones were not seen at all.

I know a lot has to do with my skin tone, which is a darker sun kissed color, however I thought that this light colored pink would shine like crazy on darker skin, sadly it doesn't.

I then tried layering it on top of one of my darker pink lip colors to see if it would show some sort of desirable shading to my lips. Sadly it did the same thing as it did when worn alone, it only highlighted my first layer of lip color with a glossy finish.

For the price I paid, there was no way I was keeping it, when a clear lip gloss or lip balm can do the exact same thing for more than half the price I paid for Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick - Pink Sand.

I do not know who to recommend this one to due to the fact that I have come across other reviews with women who have lighter skin tones stating the same thing, the color is too subtle, barely there.

Unfortunately in the store you cannot test the colors out before you buy them, so it is seriously sink or swim when it comes to this color, and other colors in this collection. Personally I will be passing this collection up for future purchases because I do not know what to expect from the color.
